As the [Brunching Shuttlecocks](http://www.brunching.com/morequarters.html) pointed out, South Carolina is just cheating.

They have the state outline, the state capital, the state bird sitting in the state flower, the state nickname, and the state tree.

I like both Virginia’s and Rhode Island’s. Rhode Island’s sailboat is just nice and clean looking.

New Jersey gets my vote as the best.

Pennsylvania gets my vote as the worst. How could they screw this up so badly? The state outline is bad enough, but the center piece is the statue “Commonwealth”, that sits on top of the capital building in Harrisburg. Most people in Pennsylvania have never seen the statue, and I don’t know if anyone outside of Harrisburg (or for that matter outside Pennsylvania) would connect the statue with PA. How about the Liberty Bell? Or Independence Hall? Maybe Gettysburg? Hell, I think a Steeler emblem taking up the entire reverse side would have been a better choice.

I like Connecticut and Rhode Island. [Vermont](http://www.statequarters.com/images/CoinDesigns/VT_big.jpg) is pretty ugly

[Statequarters.com](http://www.statequarters.com/) has some of the prospective designs. I dug through their archives and came up with some in particular:
[ul][_]Any guesses what [Iowa’s](http://www.statequarters.com/News/2002/090902_IA_big.jpg) candidates are? [_][Texas](http://www.statequarters.com/news/2002/042202_MI_TXB_big.jpg) is not bad, all lone star based. [_][Michigan](http://www.statequarters.com/news/2002/042202_MI_TXC_big.jpg) just sucks, with an overly complicated state outline and little tiny Model T’s. [_][Wisconsin](http://www.statequarters.com/news/2002/071502_WI_big.jpg)[Florida](http://12.104.174.24/news/062402/news4_big.jpg)[/ul][This page](http://www.statequarters.com/news/2001/may/2002.asp) has a lot more (past) rejected designs.

Iowa wants to put “American Gothic”, the most parodied painting in the world, on a coin? I’m dying here!

Caonnecticut. Wouldnt you love to sit under (or in) that tree on a warm afternoon?

Vermont. Glad he’s making the syrup in that frosty-looking forest, and not me.

Tennessee. Yeeehaw! We got music here!

Colorado’s quarter will feature a road-work barricade.

Plus, it comes in handy for hiding independence charters from the King of England.

I’m not kidding. Look it up.

You’ve got that right. I spent the first 19 years of my life living just ten miles from Harrisburg, and I didn’t know what the hell that was on the back of the quarter. Not exactly a famous, or even memorable, statue.

Hrm… I bet it is because the liberty bell and independence hall were done in the bicentennial coin series (as I recall). Still, you’re right… they could have come up with something better.

Time to play _Let’s spot the errors on the Tennessee coin_!

1. 5-string guitar has 6 tuning pegs. Hmm…

2. The trumpet is “twisted” backwards.
