Maybe stated earlier, but bears repeating: don’t be afraid of taking long rests, even if you don’t really need them. You’ll miss out on a lot of the story by minimizing them. The writing makes things feel so urgent that you shouldn’t long rest, but mechanically you have to take long rests in order to get all the story.
There’s like maybe two events in the game that change if you take a long rest at the wrong time. For everything else, it doesn’t matter except that not taking a long rest skips some of the story.
I use a mod that indicates when there’s long rest content available.
