> Ours don’t know that I can give food to cats. The only time I ever give them any food is when I’m giving them medication or those rare times hubs isn’t home to do it and then I do it wrong. Hubs gives them food and treats. This means I can go into the kitchen and open the fridge or cans or pouches and I’m not being mobbed while trying to cook people food.

Princess Allie is aware that DH could serve her food, she just won’t eat it if he does. She’ll only eat it if I served it.

And once again, she lives up to her name 🙂

To the OP, I forgot to squee at your handsome boyz, please grovel excessively for me. I keep hoping that GG will grow up to look like a Coon, but so far he just looks like a broken whisker doofus with a bent ear.

I’m going to be a bit of a downer here. I’ve had many cats in the last 29 years. Most were strays taken in because they just showed up and eventually allowed me to pet them and pick them up.

I’ve had to euthanize most of them. For anyone with a cherished pet, euthanization is an unpleasant step, but one we usually understand needs to be done.

My eldest, Graycee, is approaching 19. I see her euthanization by this time in 2023. I’m not looking forward to it.

I never tell my cats their death is approaching.

I’m thinking you do that for you, not for your kitties cause they wouldn’t understand.

I’ve had sick ones try to comfort me when I’ve made the last call to the vet but even though they heard every word, they didn’t know what was going to happen to them, they just knew that I was in need of comfort.

My Siamese are not tigers. I’m pretty sure they think they are big cats.
I just couldn’t break it to the skinny, scrawny things that they weigh about 1 and a half pounds each and are _not even_ medium cats.

I’ve suddenly let my 15-year-old dachshund get away with humping as much as he likes, because, due to a hernia, they’re going to have to neuter him (lest he wind up with an anal blockage). I’ve only told him that he’ll go to the vet (he’s fascinated by all the stuff around) and that they’ll make his broken tooth feel better.

Before that, it was just hiding Christmas presents from him—none of which he’s ever really liked all that much. (He’d rather stay inside than wear his coat in cold weather, and he treated the candy cane chews like bones, bringing them to his “hiding place” on our bed and then never touching it again.)

I generally try to bring out the carriers in secret. Only works on the first victim. The other two will catch on to what’s going on quick once the yowling from the first victim starts.

This. Anytime we leave the house I tell the dogs we’ll be right back, whether we are gone for minutes, hours, days, or weeks.

I also tell each dog they are the best puppy in the house whenever we are out of earshot of the others,

I never tell the dogs when my sister’s coming with her decrepit poodle.
After she leaves I get the distinct impression they weren’t happy with our house guests.
I swear to them it’ll never happen again.
But…I lie.

My Bill, my adult chihuahua was visiting my mom for a few weeks.

I bought a Boston Terrier puppy. Sky had a few days to acclimate to my house.

My mom brought Bill back. He was not amused to find his new sister Sky in my living room.

They got along OK. But were never close buds.

Bill was small enough to share my bed. Sky had a crate in my bedroom near the bed.
