Hating on hipsters is _soooo_ over. Besides, here at the SDMB we were into hipster hate _way_ before everybody else was.

Oh, yeesh, it isn’t that bad a beer. It’s beer. It’s cheap, 1970’s beer.

It’s not Beer 30 Light, for goodness sake.

Oh, definitely. I like Rolling Rock a bit, but for awhile there, it was heading toward being considered a “good” beer. It’s average, better than Milwaukee Best or Natuaral Light, but not great.

> That doesn’t even make sense. There’s no major difference between Natty and PBR, flavorwise. I prefer Pabst, some of my friends prefer Natty, but neither of us refuse to switch if one or the other isn’t available. Heck, it’s got a slightly larger alcohol content than either Natty or Busch.

Macrobrew enthusiasts are the biggest beer snobs out there.

Our swill of choice in college was Old Milwaukee. We were throwing a party one night and told everybody we were getting a keg of OM, and they all made faces like we said we were going to urinate in their mouths.

So the day of the party we got our $40 keg of Old Mil (Bud was $70), hid the keg cap, and wrote “BUD” across the top with a Sharpie. We had about 30 people, who paid $3 for cups and drained the keg in short order. Nobody said a word.

I am no hipster hater, being an occasional hipster myself, but I do get weary of the affectations sometimes.

What kind of non-conformist are you if you feel compelled to conform to a beer protocol?

I’m pretty sure that being a hipster is based almost entirely on conforming to whatever is hip at the moment. It’s the opposite of non-conformity.

Not exactly. “Hipsters” do not conform to the norms of society as a whole. On the other hand, they do tend to find a conformity of their own apart from the mainstream. Even so, they think of themselves as non-conformists _as measured against the norms of society as a whole._

My point is that if they, er, _we_, really want to be non-conformists, we would stop conforming to the norms of the smaller world of hipsterdom, and truly dare to be individuals.

I often drink Budweiser, just to aggravate my PRB-swilling crowd.

I’ve never had Natty, but PBR is a good large step above a beer like Busch Light (which, along with Milwaukee’s Best, are the two worst beers I’ve ever drank.)

I’m just saying, none of the hipsters I know or hang out with have any particular interest in non-conformity. That’s for teenage punks and college freshmen. The whole issue isn’t even on the radar. What is on the radar? Rogue Double Deadguy Ale, indie dance bands, 80s bandannas worn as headbands, and foosball. Or so went the fads here last week. I’m sure I’m behind the times by now.
