What's the difference between apple juice and apple cider?

I’m just trying to emphasise the differance, we would never call apple juice - cider, and we would always mean an alcoholic drink when we use the word cider.

a true cider can ferment i think and apple juice doesnt?

Apple juice ferments fine, as long as it’s not sorbated. But, yeah, if you have a regular farmhouse, unpasteurized cider, you can just leave that and let nature take its course.

…I dunno about you, but I ain’t ever seen any brown, tangy apple juice. If I bought juice like that I’d think it went bad somehow.

Where I shop, it is always in the cooler near the produce section, in half gallon plastic bottles like milk comes in.

Or even gallon jugs. Looks like this.

And add a dead dog!

Not just the name:

It’s not true about the rats, or the snakes’ heads, or the lead shot. The one about the dead sheep is a complete fabrication

All of the stories referenced there are stories about scrumpy (The dead sheep is a dead dog in the scrumpy story, but the gory details are probably the same).
