After Jerry Falwell made those wild remarks about the U.S. being punished by God with the 9/11 attacks, Walter Cronkite said a really weird remark back. He said(paraphrasing slightly), “Comments like that make you wonder if they worship the same god as the people who commmited this attack in the first place.” Yikes! Someone needs to slap him and Falwell around. ---

Nancy Kerrigan’s comment that the Disney parade she was participating in was the corniest thing she’d ever done, as overheard by microphone. she had the entire _country_ rooting for her in the Olympics, came away with a silver medal ([jingo]but shucky-darn, it was an _honest_ effort, and you gotta love her for that, you betcha![/jingo]), and was poised to have a whole slew of endorsement deals etc that would’ve kept her on the gravy train for _years_. Then word gets out of her audible slip, and all those deals go _poof_. _That_ was a dumb thing for her to say. ---

Gotta go with Reba McEntire, who said her survival in a bus crash was God’s was of telling her that she was meant for greater things. Of course, this same crash killed several members of her crew. I guess God was done with them, eh, Reba? (Note: Not meant to be God-bashing, just the egotism of some people who think God is “saving” them for something special, like, say, starring in “Annie Get Your Gun.”) ---

Jay was trying desperately to shut him down, but he went off on a rant and was standing and shouting. I remember this pretty clearly because I was vacationing in London at the time, and we were very thankful for our hotel carrying the European version of CNBC, so that we could see the impeachment stuff from American sources as well as the BBC/Sky News perspectives. At the time, European CNBC was airing the previous night’s Leno at midnight, and we were staying up watching, just trying to suck up all of the US-based anything that we could get. ---

I don’t have the exact quote, but Rosie O’Donnel was quoted as saying something to the effect that kids don’t need math. Her specific example was algrbra–I don’t know if she actually meaant that in this modern age of calculators we don’t even need arithmatic. ---
