My Girl Bill I forget the guy who sang it but while it was amusing the great part of it was the commotion it caused when it came out among a certain segment of society…they had fits thinking it was an ode to gay lifestyles It isn’t often you can get a bunch of people so readily IDed so quickly as idiots like that It was blaringly obvious that those who shouted the loudest had never even heard the song and were only objecting to the title since the song itself was about a guy telling another guy that… She’s…MY GIRL…BILL ---

Anything by Wesley Willis. He’s sort of an unintentional genius. Also, the song “Do The Evolution” by Pearl Jam. It’s not in any way meant to be a funny song, but just the way Eddie Vedder sings it and some of the lyrics make me picture him crawling up out of a swamp as a wild eyed, half-formed, not quite evolved caveman. ---

To clarify about AC/DC’s “Big Balls” – remember, balls = parties. Y’know, as in, “Let’s have ourselves a ball!” Where everyone COMES and COMES again… 😃 Hmm, for original songs I like “One More Minute” by Weird Al. For covers, check out “Dokaka” (use a Google search) or check your friendly neighborhood file-sharing program for David Grohl’s version of “Stairway to Heaven” on the Craig Kilborn show. ---

Cake’s version of _I Will Survive_ always cracks me up… I think because it’s sung in such a deadpan voice. Barenaked Ladies’ _Never is Enough_ makes me laugh with the “I never worked my way through a forest inch by inch doubled over on my hands and knees. I never worked a single day in retail…” and “You get your Ph.D., how happy you will be, when you get a job at Wendy’s and are honoured with Employee of the Month.” As a grad school drop-out, former half-assed archeologist, and now a full-time retail babe, I have done all of the above. The cover band Late as Usual had a funny little song that they played at the Tropical Isle (my college hang-out). It was called _You’re a Bitch and an Asshole, Too_, and was all about the singer’s messy divorce. Any other New Orleanites know what I’m talking about? ---

Not to break stride with the thread’s contents, but I just recently read a library copy of [The Golden Age of Novelty Songs: By Steven Otfinoski](http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/601-7577706-6398509?asin=0823076946) which mentions a goodly portion of the songs cited here. It’s a fun read, but better as a check-out than a purchase IMHO. ---

It was a 78rmp record my grandparents owned The name was “The Man that Comes Around” I remember part of it : “There’s a man that comes to our house every single day. Papa comes home and the man goes away. Papa does the work, and Mama gets the pay and the man comes around when Papa goes away.” I wasn’t supposed to listen to it… I don’t KNOW why. ---

Here are a couple others… “Dead Puppies” Doctor Demento “Cat’s in the Kettle at the Peking Moon” Weird Al (tune to: Cat’s in the Cradle") A Seattle local kids show host, Stan Borson, from the 60’s did some funny parodies too… (to the tune of “Catch a Falling Star”) Catch a pickled herring put it in a barrel, watch the neighbors move away." Because Unlimited Hydroplane racing was big here, his dog was names after a thunder boat (well, sorta) the Boat was "Slow Motion (4,5 don’t know what happened to 1,2 or 3) the dog, a basset was No Motion. The song was “No Mo’ No Mo’ there isn’t no Motion no more, no more.” ---
