I’ve never done it, but I always wanted to name a dog “Dioji”.
A friend of mine, long ago, rented a room in a house; said house inhabited by her, several fellow-students, and the landlady. Also, by a pet tortoise: “officially” named, quite wittily, Roger Bannister; after a celebrated 1950s British runner. In fact, everyone called the creature Torty.
I had a bulldog once who, by no fault of my own, appeared to be a racist. From being a puppy on he’d growl and huff at anyone who wasn’t white. It was clearly noticeable and embarrassing as hell. I named him Bigot. Everybody hated that name.
My son had a pair of pure white rabbits who had pink noses, pink paws, and pink in their ears. Then we got a kitten that was also pure white with a pink nose, paws, and ears. That cat thought he was a rabbit. He cuddled up to the rabbits and even tried to suckle on the female. So we named him Bunn E. Kitty (Bunny Kitty). He was half bunny but all kitty!
My first dog I named “Tiffany” because I was 9 and the only female name I could think of was the white dog in Benji.
The two dogs looked nothing alike.
Thanks to my 3-year old grandson, our 2 male goats are named after his favorite major League baseball players. I’m sure they would be thrilled to know that they are now officially G.O.A.T.s (Greatest of All Time).
