What's the *least* mainstream CD that you own?

Women’s Songs from India
Rounder Records 8261-5040-2.

Field recordings made in some villages in Bihar. Similar to Folkways records or the Nonesuch Explorer series. The notes say: “This is the real deal, not folk music designed for tourist consumption. … the singers are musically untrained women and girls.”

Nope, I’m afraid I don’t have that song. Good Lord, you mean Happy Flowers released another album. :shudder:

I just remembered, the title of my album was Oof. My favorite song from it was “There’s a Finger in My Cracker Jacks.”

Another I just remembered is a Japanese singer named Oo-sama (“The King”). His schtick was doing literal, word-for-word Japanese translations of 60’s and 70’s rock songs. I have an album of his titled En no Fuusen (Airship made of Lead).

–sublight.

I’d have to say, probably the Beatles, “One”. Apparently they were quite popular in their time, at least that’s what my dad says.

But serioiusly folks, Pink Martini, “Sympathetique”, Ravi Shankar, “Chants of India”, or Bob Marley, “Dreams of Freedom: Ambient Translations of Bob Marley in Dub” are probably my least “mainstream” CDs. Oh, almost forgot about my “Sounds of the Planets” box set. And Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, “God Fodder”.

According to the band history here, Oof was their third album. Apparently Mr. Anus lives here in DC (at least as recently as 2000) and is still playing in bands… I could get that tape autographed for you!

I have “I Wanna Watch Cartoons” on a mix tape. 30 seconds of this and you will never want to have children.
