The crazy cat lady is a middle-aged-ish woman who never married, doesn’t really date (at least, not successfully), and comes home every night to TV and cats. The male equivalent, I think, is the socially-awkward guy who’s too nervous to talk to women, so ends up hanging out alone at home and playing computer games all night, possibly in his elderly parents’ basement. Basically: Comic Book Guy, from The Simpsons. ---

Wow, thanks for all of the replies, and quickly, too. I guess the best answer was in front of me all along: “crazy cat guy”. I can’t quite identify why, but it just doesn’t have the same ring to it as “crazy cat lady”; maybe it just needs time to sink in. As for the others: kittyman: makes me sound like a feline/human hybrid superhero. Not exactly what I was going for. Creepy / sad / pathetic: come on, cat ownership (even of multiple cats) alone does not make one creepy, sad, or pathetic. crazy cat lady: sorry, but if the word “man” can’t be gender-neutral so as to refer to all humanity (as in, “where no man has gone before”), then neither can “lady” be gender-neutral. @Antigen, tim-n-va: I see where you’re going, being a long-time Simpsons fan myself. But I was going for a more literal interpretation, meaning a man who has some cat-lady-like characteristics (primarily doting upon one’s cat(s) as though they were your own children). See my OP for how I would define “cat lady”. I would call myself one of whatever-we-decide-here, with “crazy cat guy” currently in the lead. The only thing I don’t do is buy cat-related artsy stuff, mainly because I don’t care for wall art in general. ---

The closet I can think of in real life is a car parts hoarder. The guy with old rims, tires, radiators, fenders, batteries, and motorcycle parts scatter all over his front and back yard. ---

The people that had to remove the body were overpowered by the smell of the cats and the decomposing body and just wanted to get him out as fast as possible. They never said anything about the cats eating him though. ---

A friend of mine owns a cat that began to eat her previous, deceased owner. She’s a cute little thing. Friend was working at a cat shelter when she was brought in. They felt they ought to disclose her history to potential adopters. I’m not sure if they tried and couldn’t rehome her or if my friend preempted it but she ended up with the cat anyway. ---

Or the Gun Nut/Car Nut/Computer Nut, etc. They’re both collectors; but the Crazy Cat lady is drawn to collecting and fetishizing living creatures, while her masculine counterpart is drown into collecting and fetishiizing objects. ---
