At one time, I held the post of Cubmaster of a Cub Scout Pack; however, being a girl, I tried out the title of Cub Mistress. I dropped it pretty quickly there because it just had a vaguely unwholesome sound to it, but resurrected it for a couple of message boards, of which the SD is one. So, there ya go. Not much to it. ---

I’ve been using this name since I first signed up for an email account many years ago. I wanted something kinda vague and didn’t have a cool nickname to use. So I went back to college memories when a group of friends decided late one night that I was a “Real Pipperroo” I have continued to use it for all email account and message boards that let you choose your own name ever since. Not very creative and not very interesting. ---

Or wait…is that the Shire?? 😕😃 Actually, it isn’t a town so much as hundreds of square miles of Northern California [beauty](http://virtualguidebooks.com/NorthCalif/NorthCalCoast/Mattole/CouncilMadroneL.html) (Qtime), with a one-room [general store](http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object.cgi?object=/chronicle/pictures/2004/07/18/cm_lostcoast04.jpg&paper=chronicle&file=CMGJS79LCI1.DTL&directory=/chronicle/archive/2004/07/18&type=news) stuck at a crossroads in the middle of it. As you might guess I’m rather fond of where I’m from, and am always homesick for it. That panoramic video is footage of the massive “Council Madrone” which once served as a gathering spot for the Mattole tribe. It was REALLY MASSIVE for a Madrone, and was sadly destroyed by a lightening strike a few years back. ☹ ---

Many years ago, I heard the word ‘misnomer’ get used in either a TV or radio commercial. It wasn’t my first time hearing the word, but for some reason when I heard that commercial I immediately thought – swear to og – “That would be a great name for a band!” (I started keeping a list of potential band names before I’d even _heard_ of Dave Barry…honest! 🙂 ) ‘Misnomer’ hasn’t been right for any of the bands that I’ve been in, but when I got tired of my first internet name it seemed perfect: it’s quite neutral, yet kinda clever – well, I like to think so, anyway. I really like it, but it’s often already taken and I’m forced to add numbers after it or something: I was [completely amazed](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=269062) when I registered here and was able to get ‘my’ name! 🙂 ---

I actually chose mine a few years ago. Well, not chose, just saw and remembered. There used to be a site called the Road to Nowhere (it was a compilation of all sorts of Dadaist stuff) and there was one interactive story on the site, the purpose of which was for it to be completely done in Automatic Writing (a Surrealist technique; you just start writing and don’t even _think_ about what’s coming out - just write. Hence, the “automatic” part - can be very funny). Anyway, I was reading this story and a chapter that someone had wrote mentioned “the Amazon Floozy Goddess”. And I thought - GREAT name! 🙂 ---

I love gemstones & jewelry, and **padmaraga** is the name of a particular color of ruby/sapphire (corundum); it comes from the sanskrit words “padma”, meaning “lotus flower”, and “raga”, meaning color (hence, “color of the lotus flower”). It’s more commonly known by the German corruption of the word, padparadscha. It is described as a pinkish-orange, similar to the color of certain sunsets. And I have pinkish skin with a yellowish undertone, and orangish (light red) hair, so there’s sort of a correspondence. ---

Well, there’s this really obscure story/movie that nobody on the SDMB seems to know about, and an obscure and relatively unimportant character within that story who adds a fluffy if insubstantial layer of plot–“quilt batting” you might say. That character’s name is Inigo Montoya and he is bent on meeting & defeating the 6-fingered man who slaughtered his father. My father was defeated by the “six-fingered man” that some people might call sextuple bypass heart surgury. Inigo’s successful completion of his quest is summed up by his movie quote in my signature line. ---

I used **Deep Fried** on other boards and messengers. My neice (at the time she was around 12) sent me her artistic vision of my username and I, like the proud uncle I am, started using the one you see here. **duffer** , stay outta my head. :smack: I had this exact idea for a thread about 2 days ago, but I was gonna call it “Splain your name!” I’m guessing yours is doing much better than mine would. 😉 Anyways, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, natch. 😉 The bit about earth being classified and “harmless” and then reclassified as “mostly harmless”. It’s been my email and user name on various websites since 1997, when I first read it. My friends thought it appropriate for me because no matter how upset I get about something, I’m still harmless. 😃 ---
