Back in High School, one year in gym class (or perhaps in was intramurals…it’s been a long time) we all chose names for our different teams (as I recall, the sport in question was baseball, but as I said…it’s been a long time). Anyway, we had all the usual suspects: Giants, Yankees, etc. And one team that decided to call itself “The Suburban Plankton”. Years later, when I needed a name to use on this newfangled Internet thingy, the phrase called itself back from the depths of my subconscious. ---

When I got my first “real” PC in 2000, wife and I were starting from scratch. My last PC was a TI 99 4/A. We needed an e-mail address and decided on a family account because we saw no need for individual e-mail addresses. We decided on D.E.S.K., the first initial of me, our youngest, our oldest, and my wife. Top was added for the stupid PC based pun. 668 was added because D.E.S.K.Top was actually taken and one of the suggestions was D.E.S.K.Top668 and it was the easiest to remember. We all now have individual accounts, but I somehow inherited the “family address.” ---

There are often speculations of my extinction, sightings of me are pretty rare and then usually only by people nobody in the real world take terribly seriously. I am not sure if anyone wants to clone me, there are more likely candidates of the smart and/or supermodel variety available after all. ---

At the time I registered, cooking was my primary hobby. I adopted a phrase popular since the 1940s, and I truly prefer a gas stove (but electric oven). But since then I have revived my first true love, guitar. Now I use a guitar-oriented name on most other boards. ---
