# What's the most degenerate thing you've done within the last month?

I grew a beard when I retired. When women who knew me both ways told me it made me look a LOT older, I shaved it back off.

The other thing is that having a beard doesn’t eliminate shaving. It just changes how you do it. Maintaining a beard is a far fussier process than clean-shaving every day. Overall I did not find the beard labor-saving.

I use a beard trimmer once a week. And I don’t have a pissed off CPO yelling at me about what a bad job I did.

Yeah, I find having a beard WAY less work than staying clean shaven. Trim once a week, and maybe twice a week I’ll trim the mustache part because I dislike hairs poking me in the lower lip and give a quick shave to my neck and clean up my cheeks. But a disposable blade lasts me a month or two versus the days of having to shave daily and the daily time spent on it is a fraction of the old days.

Maybe if I was trying to maintain some richly flowing lumberjack or hipster beard instead of a regular ole dad beard, it would be different.
