Allowing a roomful of tools and supplies (several, actually, if it’s anything like my uni library) would certainly change things a bit. FWIW, I read “faithful” as related to the “book-for-book copy” part, not the library building part.

Once opened, that seed won’t last indefinitely; especially sitting around at 70F in full light. If you open it before there’s any ground fit to plant it in, much of it may be dead before you’re ready to use it.
I wasn’t thinking as seed, but coconut shells and husk are both usable materials. Especially if they want to put on a play and include horses…

The scenario is so no-win that I’m looking for loopholes, things the aliens might not have thought of, ways to exploit the scenario. The aliens sound bored and not as rigorous as they think they are, so maybe they just yoinked and plopped a research lab, not considering the ramifications.

In the Book of Mormon, a small group of people leave Jerusalem about 600 BCE, and travel out in the wilderness. Keeping all to themselves, they build a ship from scratch and then sail to the Americas.
An exmormon podcaster got together with a scholar who was familiar with ancient civilizations to see how impossible this project would be. It was really interesting to see how much was involved. Even just making the sail would be impossibly difficult for an isolated group without access to the various materials.
Perhaps with sharpened bones from the donor? The thin skull bones might work and you need the brains to tan the hides anyway. For some reason this topic is not shown in any of the YouTube survival videos. Gotta get the Outdoor Boys on the case.

That is a great idea actually! Given the petty behaviour of the Dorg, kissing up to them is probably the best way to make them look favorably on mankind.
Is there any element that would etch stone? I’m thinking we might turn one of the rock formations into a statue? If nothing else we could bang on it with titanium bricks.
