To me, calling those 5th gens (2004-2006) a GTO is like calling the Ford Mach-E a Mustang. It just feels wrong. ---

This is a side note. My cousin is an artist. She found an old black and white photo of a woman getting into a Model A. It was her grandmother. It’s a long story… Her grandmother ‘Mae’ was not sent to college. Her two brothers where. “College is a waste of time for women” is what her father told her. So she went to secretarial school. A common career path and attitude towards women at the time. So she worked and she saved and bought that Model A. My cousin painted that picture of her grandmother getting into that Model A. Titled ‘Mae’s First Car’. It’s a great work, I bought it. It is now hanging in my house. Not just because it’s a very good work, but I wanted to keep it in the family. It was pretty rare for women to drive back then, let alone buy a car. ---

Driving down the interstate yesterday I saw a very cool colored (Shark Blue) Porsche Cayman. I pointed it out to her & put my eyes back on driving; being in the pax seat, she was able to look at it a little longer. She then told me what she saw… the driver’s hands were at the 11 & one o’clock positions with his arms straight out & she saw a head rise up from his lap! 🫣 ---

Technically for the first two model years the GTO _was_ a Tempest (with a special option package). We just tend to forget that nowadays because you’re much more likely to see a GTO on the road or at a car show, because fewer people bothered to preserve those lesser models. ---
