I’ve seen that on private motor coaches and semi rigs used by e.g., musical groups, and have always assumed (WAG coming) that it was to avoid being stopped by police for some regulation that would apply to commercial transporters but not privately owned vehicles. Perhaps one of our in-house LEOs could chime in. ---

I don’t know anything about Porsches, but a google image search tells me this isn’t a one-off car. It appears to be, if not stock, something regularly made. Right down to the gray jerry cans on the roof rack. Porsche started making cars for the Dakar Rally in 1984. Not sure when they first Dakar badged Porsche was offered for sale. ---

I’m not sure if this is an actual European spec van that someone brought over here, or if the owner just added it because they like the look. If it’s actually registered in California it’s technically required to have a California plate on the front, but plenty of people flout that rule. In hindsight I wish I’d walked around to the back to see what kind of plate it has there. ---

On a walk over the weekend the car cover was finally off the second vehicle in a neighbor’s yard. I’ve posted the front one before, the rear car appears to very similar. Triumph GT6? They both appear similar but with some differences. Looking at some pictures online, it looks like one of the visual differences between the Spitfire and GT6 is that the GT6 has that hump in the middle of the hood. I believe that was to accommodate the GT6’s inline 6 cylinder engine (versus the Spitfire’s 4 cylinder). ---

Runs great, strong little engine. 160 hp out of a 1.4 liter and plenty of torque. Just a happy little car. Took her out on a couple of errands yesterday with the top down, had a blast. Not used to people checking out my car, my usual drive is a beater Kia Soul with over 200k miles. ---

The Fiat was cheaper than comparable Mazdas near me, and I much prefer the styling of the Spider. ---

Ah, that makes sense. I admit I do like the Fiat’s styling better as well, but I personally went with a Mazda because I had concerns about the reliability of the Fiat engine.
