# Whats the most over played band on rock radio in your area?

I live in Colorado Springs and on the local rock station, KILO 94.3 , its impossible to turn on the radio without hearing either Nickleback or Disturbed.
I swear to christ that I cannot stand Disturbed and if I hear THE GAME again in the next 15 minutes I am gonna start choppin heads off!! At least Nickleback sounds like a mediocre band, Disturbed is just CRAP. That singer is terrible.
I think a VERY close 3rd place goes to Metallica. Don’t get me wrong, I would rather hear Metallica than most of the other shit on the radio today, but this station plays at least one Metallica song every hour. Hell, they even have a segment called “Mandatory Metallica” every night at 10pm. The rock station in Salt Lake had the same little Metallica special on every night. Same name too. Its like these Rock stations are trying to make up for all the years that they ignored Metallica up until the Black Album by playing the every living crap out of Fade to Black and Sanitarium.
Can’t forget Linkin Park either, but I don’t want to start listing the entire playlist of this station. That would be about 15 bands long!

Classic rock stations seem to have a problem meeting their CanCon quota (Canadian legislation requiring airplay to consist of roughly 35% Canadian artists). So they end up playing Rush.
I don’t mind Rush, but when it gets to be about 15% of a day’s programming (the other 15% essentially goes to Neil Young)…

One of our stations in the Boise area, KJOT (J-105), plays _waaaayyy_ too much AC/DC. I wish they’d give Angus Young’s grating vocals a long rest. Another station, KQXR (100.3 “The X”) plays too much Creed, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park. They also tend to favor post-black album Metallica.

There’s a long list. Most are people worth hearing, but not all the time. Also, they tend to only play a limited number of the group’s songs at a time. Thus you’ll keep hearing the same five Rolling Stones songs over and over. Then they drop one or two and add others.
As far as names: Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Miller, and the Stones are the main faves.

In the Raleigh/Durham area, 96 Rock has pretty much become Classic Alternative, so you’ll hear buttloads of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Also, Mandatory Metallica.

In the Kalamazoo/West Michigan area, the main rock stations are 94-dot-5 WKLQ (“The Rock”) and 92-dot-3 WZUU (“The Zoo”) - as far as I know, they are not affiliated, they just seem to think “dot” is a better-sounding word than “point.” Anyway, they _both_ play too much P.O.D. (generally “Youth of the Nation”), AC/DC, Creed, and post-Black Album Metallica. WKLQ has the “Tool Rule,” that apparently states they have to remind me why Tool is one of my favorite bands by playing them several times a day. Both stations have “Mandatory Metallica” - did James and the boys strike up some kind of deal with rock radio or something? Mandatory Metallica seems to be everywhere by the looks of this thread.

I forgot to add Rob “Shit-Suckin” Zombie. That POS is on every hour at least. 75% of the time it is Dragula.
Staind almost made this list, but they are overshadowed by both Nickleback and Distrubed.

Our Clear Channel classic rock station, WVNA (The Big Dog of Rock ‘n’ Roll, yeah right), plays Bob Seger and Styx to the point of nausea. It used to be Seger and ZZ Top. One night while buying groceries, I heard the DJ say they wouldn’t play any Seger that night from 8pm until midnight. I said there’s no way they’ll stick to it or it’s just a gag. Turned my radio off and went home. About 11pm, I decided to check and see, first thing I heard when I turned my stereo on at home: “Katmandu”. BIOYA WVNA.
Our modern rock station, WRAX, is piped in on a translator from Birmingham. They can’t let go of Staind, Nickelback, Nirvana, and Creed. The last one is strange because the DJs go out of their way to slam Creed at every opportunity, and most of the calls they put on the air about Creed are very hostile. Are Creed fans so loyal that the station can tear the group apart and know that the fans will keep listening?

In the Garden State (with local and NY stations), it’s all about AC/DC on classic rock stations and Creed on “modern” rock stations. These are not the only bands that are played add nauseum, but they are the most annoying. For about a month, I swear I couldn’t make the 10 minute drive from home to work (or vice versa) without hearing at least one AC/DC song. And, forgive me AC/DC fans, but if you heard one AC/DC song, you’ve heard 'em all.

I’m surprised **Incubus** hasn’t made it into this thread yet. I’ll also throw in **Nickelback** as an overplayed band on the radio while I’m posting here again. **Alien Ant Farm** used to get a lot of airplay, but they have since eased up on them a bit.

Another Bloomington, Indiana resident checking in. Arken was right, we have way too much Mellencamp around here. I know he’s done pretty well over the years, but his last several albums get a little too much lip service on our local stations. I know he’s an Indiana boy and all, but enough’s enough. Quit overhyping the mediocre stuff he’s been churning out the last several years.

Amen to that! Sometimes, when I actually keep the radio tuned to the station playing AC/DC, I can’t tell if the song is “Back in Black” or “Highway to Hell” or “Dirty Deeds” until they actually say the name of the song.
**dwc1970** , I didn’t even think about Incubus until you mentioned them. I saw them in concert back in '98 (with **Soulfly** , my reason for going in the first place) and I thought they were pretty good. A few years later, I heard the DJ say that “coming up after the break, the new release from Incubus.” Turned out it sucked ass, and they have ever since, but the radio stations still insist on playing them.
Oh, and since **The Verve Pipe** is from Michigan, guess who else we get shoved down our throats on a regular basis? (I know what you’re thinking: “Verve who?”)

You cannot listen to Los Angeles’ KROQ for more than a few hours without hearing something off of Sublime’s self titled album (6 years old), Nirvana’s _Nevermind_ (11 years old), or the Beastie Boys’ _Licensed to Ill_ (16 years old). We’re not talking overplayed bands, we’re taking overplayed albums.
In the late 90s, the now defunct “modern rock” Y107 tried to appeal to depressed 30-somethings. On road trips I would wager that we couldn’t go 90 minutes without hearing something from either The Cure, Depeche Mode, or the Smiths/Morrisey. I never lost.

I don’t listen to this station often, but it seems that whenever I turn to 100.3 FM (the oldies station in the DC area), I hear a Simon & Garfunkel song. It’s always a different S&G song, too.
Don’t get me wrong…I actually like Simon & Garfunkel. But I’m from the Philadelphia area originally, and I have **never ever** heard S&G played on Philly’s oldies station (98.1 FM). So this is kind of freaky.

Sorry for the double post but while I’m thinking about it:
At work, I listen to WXRV out of Boston (you can find it at Yahoo Radio). IMO, they play a very good variety of “rock” music. By “rock”, I mean groups like Dave Matthews Band, Rolling Stones, Trey Anastasio (of Phish fame), Sheryl Crowe, etc. They don’t play any of the hard stuff, for you metal heads out there. Anyway, I probably listen to them for five or six hours a day and very rarely hear a song more than once or twice in that time. Check 'em out.
