Michael Moorcock hated it, but I still enjoy _The Final Programme_ (American title: _Last Days of Man on Earth_). Quite a cast, too. Jon Finch made a great Jerry Cornelius.

> **Outland** [ is kinda fun, but seriously dumb. Seriously. It starts with the bodies exploding when they get into vacuum (doesn’t happen – Arthur C, Clarke had been on a mission to disprove it, and this film came out well over a decade after _2001_) and continues with the idiocy of Connery’s character disposing of evidence for no good reason, the space suits with lights _inside_ the helmets, and the by-now standard idiocy of guys shooting at windows in a vacuum environment.

> But if you really want to see a good takedown of this film, Harlan Ellison pretty much eviscerates the entire psychology and concept in a wonderful piece published in **Omni: Screen Flights, Screen Fantasies** in 1984. Sadly, it has not been reprinted ( [Title: Outland: Out of its Mind But, Sadly, Not Out of Sight](http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?715169) ) “Outland: Out of its Mind, but , Sadly, Not Out Of Sight” is cathartic.

Not sure, but I think the article was reprinted in Ellison’s collection of film reviews, _Harlan Ellison’s Watching._

I kind of enjoyed the film, despite its plot holes and scientific errors. Steranko did a good comic book adaptation of it in Heavy Metal at the time.

If it was, it’s not listed in the internet speculation fiction database page that I linked to. That’s not their sort of lapse.

If it’s there, though, have a look. It’s always fun to watch Ellison in action. And for all my love of Peter Hyams, I think Ellison is pretty spot-on here. “High Noon in Space” doesn’t really work, on a LOT of levels.

I wholeheartedly agree this was an underrated film. I particularly enjoyed how the film depicted the various psychological stages the protagonist went through as he learned (or thought) he was the last man alive on earth.

BTW, Thanks to all the great suggestions. Over the past few nights I’ve been digging up a lot of these movies to watch. Just watched Moon last night and thought it was great! Also, Time after time I probably haven’t seen in 30 years, but it holds up quit well. Although McDowell looked too young to play Wells. He just looked too much like Alex from Clockwork Orange with a bad hairpiece and stash! But really well acted of course.

I am casting a vote for _ **Primer** _. [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/?ref\_=nv\_sr\_1](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/?ref_=nv_sr_1)
