[A film adaptation of _The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress_ is] being developed now. I have reasonably high hopes, because the screenplay is being written by Tim Minear, who wrote scripts for **Buffy** , **Firefly** , **Wonderfalls** , and other great shows..

Cite? I couldn’t find that in the IMDb.

If it’s true, well! That would be very [timely!](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=399138)🙂
Between the Blade trilogy, the Underworld movies and the assorted Draculi films, the vampire genre has been done to death.
Maybe, but Dracula has never been done once in a way that is true to the book. And that is one scary book. (Have you read it?) There is plenty of material there for a trilogy.

I’m still pissed about Coppola’s version. Turned the whole thing into a loud, over-the-top action movie, and turned Van Helsing into a screaming lunatic (as opposed to the steely, determined sage of the book).

I’ll second the Foundation trilogy.

Stephen King’s _Dark Tower_ series might be interesting.

Well, I found a [cite,](http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2004-01/20/13.00.film) but it dates from 2004. [This](http://ifmagazine.com/feature.asp?article=1316) one dates from 2005. Any more recent news?

Both might be interesting. Well Dark Tower would be. I always found the Foundation series dull.

Only problem is that I cringe when I think of what happens to King when his work hits the big or little screen.

Unfortunately, not much. Here’s an excerpt from an [interview with Tim Minear](http://drive-tv.blogspot.com/2006/07/tim-minear-interview.html) from July 2006:

> [@](#):

> Final question: what is the status of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress film and The Inside DVDs? And if they’re not coming out soon is there anything fans can do to persuade Fox to release them?
>
> TM: I hold no hope for The Inside DVDs. My best advice is for people to find the aired episodes on-line: they’re all there, and in nice quality. **Moon is in the hands of the people who hired me to adapt it. I understand they’re pursuing ways in which to set it up. That’s really all I know.**

I guess it’s in pre-production hell. A lot of movies die there, so it’s far from a sure thing to be produced. But we can hope. At least there’s a finished script.
