I was 42. As I pulled out my ID, I said, “Geez, kiddo, I’m legal _times two_.” The checker explained that store policy was to card under 35. So I said, “Well thanks anyway – I’ll take being told I look younger than 35!” And the kid said, “Oh, I card everyone – I have a hard time judging older people’s ages.” The minute the words cleared his lips he went absolutely pale, realizing what he said. I let him off the hook by smiling pleasantly and saying, “Sure. I’m not much good at judging age either – I suppose that’s why they make checkers card people.” then changing the subject. That was my good deed for the day – he looked much relieved that I didn’t tear his head off or something. ---

I’m 32 and get carded for cigarettes regularly. My favorite time was a few months ago when my corner store hired a new guy. New guy asks for ID, looks and the date, looks at me, widens his eyes and says “No way!” Totally made my day. My S/O was born in 1965. He recently bought some beer at the grocery store using those self-checkout lines. The checkout computer asks for a cashier to manually OK the purchase, so he gets ready to show the kid his ID. Kid cashier yells across the store, “That’s OK! We don’t card if you’re born before 1960!” Choice words were uttered by the S/O. I just giggled. ---

I was carded in Fort Lauderdale at 24, and in San Jose at 35. I’ve never been carded here in Ontario (where the drinking age is 19). ---

Xmas 1999. I was buying a bottle of wine (and some additional food items) for dinner with my brother and his wife. The young girl at checkout seemed uneasy, and I asked her if everything was OK. She hemmed, hawed and asked me, “Uh, er… could I see some ID?” Stupified, I whipped out my wallet, telling her, “You’ve just made a forty-year-old man _very_ happy!” She didn’t seem to realize I meant that _I_ was 40. After inspecting the birthdate on my drivers’ license, she replied, “Wow, you’re 40!?! You sure don’t look it!” I basked in the warm light… The she ruined everything by noting, “Gee, my mother is only 37”… ☹ I replied semi-seriously, _“You just undid 80% of the good you did a moment ago!”_ ---

I’m 32 and my former boss is 45 and we were both carded in Alpharetta, GA this year. Apparently it’s the law. ---

If I ever shave, I look like I’m a five-year-old. A hulking, massive, hairy, quivering, freakish five-year-old, but a five-year-old nonetheless. If I have facial hair, I start getting age estimates of around 30-ish. I’m 23. ---

At age 33, I still get carded every single freaking time I buy alcohol, unless it’s in an establishment where they know me. ---

A lot of places card you (or at least ask your birthday to feed the register tape) when you buy alcohol. The last time I was carded for _real_ with a surprised look after was a couple years ago. I’m 56 now. The young man at the liquor store looked quite embarrassed because he had been flirty. I don’t think he thought I was underage as much as he was just flirting. Then when he saw my real age I think he flashed on his _mom!_ :eek: We had a good laugh about it. I do look young for my age. If people guess my age they usually shave off about 15 years and are surprised I have a grown daughter. I can’t really take all the credit because I think it’s just in the genes on the maternal line. My mother has fewer wrinkles and lines in her face than some of my contemporaries. Go figure, but then, I’m not complaining. \*actually all the women in my family have portraits in the attic \* 😉 ---

Well, shoot, I was carded for real summer before last, at 37. Hardly seems worth mentioning. ‘Course now that I’ve got babies & no time for putting ol’ #63 on my roots, people ask if I’m their grandmother. ---

I’ve never been carded. Ever. I was born looking old or something. I went into bars and never got carded when I was a teenager. I’m 55 now and I’ll never have the pleasure (?) of being carded. ---

I work in a bar where the policy is to card everybody, every time. So, I get carded, just like every one else, when I drink in the bar I manage. I’ve also carded both of my parents before, which is a little odd. The oldest person I’ve ever carded was 86./end hijack As to the OP, outside of the bar above, I was carded about a month ago for smokes at KMart. Double carded, actually, the clerk had to take my ID to the Manager, who then OK’d the purchase. I’m 31. ---

I’m 19 and my firends and I got to 18 and 19 plus clubs. My roommate that’s 21 gets her ID scrutinized. There are times when they don’t card me. Then there was this time at a really sketchy club where even though it says in about seven places that I’m not 21 and I said it verbally, they slapped a braclet on my wrist, meaning I could drink. The guy I was with said the bouncer probably did it so that I would sleep with the guy I came with. I think the bouncer was hoping to get some. We didn’t stay long enough for anything to happen. ---

37, the age I am right now. The Elf and I were at a restraunt, don’t remember which one, ordering drinks. I was asked for my ID, he wasn’t (he’s 51 with lots’o grey in his beard and much youthful partying etched into his face). Folks often think he’s my dad. I think it’s funny. Him, not so amused. 😉 He did get carded once in a grocery store, but I suspect that’s because they were carding everyone. I get carded all the time, particulary since I started coloring my hair, but even before when I had very noticable grey. My secret? Don’t smoke, don’t drink to excess, don’t have kids. 🙂 ---
