Just out of curiosity, how many other Dopers have stood in or near the splash pool at the foot of [Fall Creek Falls, TN,](http://state.tn.us/environment/parks/FallCreekFalls/) which (according to TN stats) is the highest waterfall (at 256’) east of the Rockies? If not that far down, then at least the overlook at the top of the falls? Or who, in dry weather, have waded across the creek (or used a plank walkway to cross it) to stand at the top of them? Better yet, who has been to a higher waterfall than FCF east of the Rockies? (At least one in North Georgia makes such a claim). ---

(There’s a very nice winery there too, in case you want to give someone a bottle in Intercourse’s Best. 😃 ) How about Lake Ariel, PA…? Or the Ice Caves of Ellenville, NY. (curse you, Mobil Travel Map…!) Come for the ‘Rainbow Cave’; stay for the winery 2 miles away and because you’ll need a drink when you discover… …that the only thing that makes the ‘Rainbow Cave’ any different from the other caves along the trail is the string of Christmas Tree lights strung from one end to the other. Now, aren’t you glad you drove all that way…? Bogota or Cartagena Colombia? Westport or Cliffden ROI…? or even New Gretna…? (what the hell did they do with the Old Gretna…? :dubious: 😃 ) ---

[/QUOTE] Impressive, ain’t it? It’s been a long time (early 70’s in the spring after lots of rain) since I sat a good 100 feet from the foot of the falls and got drenched by the mist. In later years the flow has been way weaker and the mist practically nonexistent. Still, it’s awe-inspiring. ---

I thought of one other out-of-the-way place I’ve been: The [Little House Wayside](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_House_Wayside) near Pepin, WI. It took some doing to find it. I was on a little pilgrimage from Pepin to the Black Hills, stopping at the “Little House” sites along the way. ---
