I stood in the middle of the old RCA recording studio in Hollywood, in the same room where The Rolling Stones recorded “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and Harry Nilsson made albums, and hundreds of other records that we all know were made. ---

I have been to Timika and the Grasberg Mine where Freeport extracts copper and gold in Irian Jaya (aka West Papua). If any other Dopers have been there, I’d love to hear how that came about. It isn’t exactly a place you just happen to end up. (I was there on behalf of the Environmental Bamboo Foundation, which was going to propose a program of bamboo planting to assist in mitigating the environmental degradation that results from mining.) ---

One (for me very exotic one) was Bombala, Australia, where my family got stranded in the mountains with almost no gas after dark, after everything had closed.
