I can wake up any time between 5:15 and 5:45 am and make it to work on time (8:00 am) My alarms ring at 5:15, and if I feel like getting up, drinking some coffee, watching the news or whatever, I do that. Sometimes I feel too tired to do anything but jump in the shower, so I’ll just snooze to a later time to wake up.

I hit the SNOOZE button because it’s always the largest button on every alarm clock I’ve ever owned.

> Now what drives me a little nuts, is my wife likes to set clocks 15 minutes fast, so “she has more time”. I won’t let her do it with any of the ‘house’ clocks (it’s the one thing that I put my foot down about), she just does her car and alarm clock. She is one of the most punctual people in the world. Always has been, has no problem being on time even when using an accurate on time clock. I just don’t get it.

My car has a built-in nav system, so it sets its clock based on the GPS signals. The default behavior is for the clock to keep perfectly accurate time, down to the nanosecond. But if you dive down into the menus, you can find a setting that adds/subtracts a user-adjustable offset, apparently to accommodate people like your wife.

My wife is fully awake from the moment she stops sleeping. It sounds like most of you who don’t get the pint of a snooze button are similar.

For me, it’s a long process to go from asleep to completely functional. A snooze button allows me to trigger the start of that journey ahead of time. Lately I’ve been using my cell phone to customize the snooze length. It also will read the time aloud, which lets me keep track without constantly looking at a clock.

> I dont use the snooze, but I set about a half dozen alarms. This is simply because I will turn off the alarms without actually waking up. Hell, if I didn’t have a dog jumping on my face in the morning, I’d probably be late to work half of the time. My dog ensures that I am never late.

I have done this instead of snoozing because on my phone (yes, I use a phone) it is too easy to screw up the snooze feature when you are still mostly asleep. So I have three alarms, 10 minutes apart. Usually, I’m good to get up at the second one. When I was sick this past holiday season though, I could snooze for an hour.

>
> It didn’t cost much and was easy to swap in for the existing thermostat. I actually spent a lot more time picking out which one I wanted to buy than actually replacing it. And I’m not super-handy.

I hate to admit it, but…

We have one of those, too. My husband and I got into a settings war. I get up at 5-5:30 and he gets up at 7:30 at the earliest. He hates when I change the thermostat settings and adjusts it so the goal temp is 65 not to warm up until 7:15 because he says he can’t sleep when it’s hot. Unfortunately, the “true” temp of the house is usually closer to 60 or 62 when I get up.

I got tired of arguing about it when there’s no actual right or wrong so I just crawl out of bed, jack it up, then crawl back in. For what it’s worth, he sleeps like a log even after I turn up the heat.

So…I don’t think snooze alarms are childish, but I do recognize that the above probably is. But it works for us. He’s none the wiser and I’m a little warmer a little earlier.

Heh, this morning I had just hit snooze for the second time, and decided to take a quick bathroom break to relieve the pressure during the rest of my wakeup process. As I was doing this I sat there experiencing a dull ache all around my frontal lobe, and thought of all the people in this thread who think the body (_everyone’s_ body) is designed to leap straight out of bed. Back to bed and two snoozes later the sleep toxins or whatever were completely cleaned out and I was good to go.

Our dogs usually wake me up five or so minutes before the alarm. Even on Sundays. For some odd reason I’m cool with that and miss it when we are away from home.

I have inadvertently trained my cat to be my snooze alarm by feeding him first thing after I get up in the morning. If I stay in bed for too long after the alarm the cat is on the bed inquiring as to why his breakfast is late.

And people say cats can’t be trained to be useful!

My ex used to hit the fucking snooze button ohh, 4, 5, 6 times every morning. I didn’t have to get up until half an hour after she left for work, so what could have been an extra hour to an hour and a half sleep for me turned into me laying there wide awake and totally and completely resentful of her selfish, narcissistic behaviour every fucking morning.

Why didn’t I just get up and go to work early? Because it was my job to stick around, feed the kids breakfast, and get them on the school bus.

So, if you’re one of these spouses, just don’t fucking do that, OK?

My cat pounces once he sees me stirring. He’s very good about not waking me from a dead sleep… but once he sees signs of life, game over.

Sometimes when he does that, I wrestle him onto the bed and nuzzle his tummy. It’s only fair.

Huh. Makes sense that it’s getting it’s time from GPS. My 2019 4Runner is always spot on. But with modern digital clocks, that’s expected.

I agree, it’s definitely a point to talk about when you’re at the point of having someone staying over frequently. It would be a serious dealbreaker for me.

My OP was prompted by a friend of mine who occasionally stays over when he’s got a late shift and wants to use my gym in the AM. And that’s fine. But he kept hitting that damn snooze and I was about to smash his phone. If you decide fuck the gym when you wake up, that’s ok. Just reset the alarm for when you need to be up and be done with it.
