Incredibly positive reception. Granted, it’s an audience primed to love the movie, but I’ve seen a few screenings go downhill there. After the screening, the ladies’ room was full of a bunch of us girls fixing our makeup from all the crying, and a number of the guys reported crying or near-crying too. I know my husband did a little. I’d be specific about the parts that really got to everyone, but I don’t want to spoil anything. I really didn’t hear anyone say anything negative about the movie.
It hasn’t gone off the rails, based on what we’ve heard so far – it’s utterly on track.
It seems to me that the only way this can seem wrong is if your concept of Kong comes from playing Rampage or watching chewing gum commercials.
Come on, what’s the denouementof the 1933 Kong?“It wasn’t the airplanes – it was beauty that killed the beast.”
That’s what the story has always been about, at its core. You can’t approach this film from any other direction and expect it to work.
Maybe it sounds like parody to you, as related by the one reviewer who didn’t like it. Keep in mind this is the same guy who pegged Kill Bill, Monster, and Tadpole as failures, and the same scenes he describes are hitting the right notes with very nearly everyone else who’s reviewed the film.
Myself, I’ll withold judgement until I’ve actually seen it, but I suspect that I’m not in the Slant demographic that rates Fantastic Four, The Bad News Bears, The Dukes of Hazzard and Airplane! over Jackson’s King Kong.
They rated Airplane! over King Kong?
Surely, you can’t be serious!
At least now we know what finally killed vaudeville; it was pushed over repeatedly by a giant ape.
I’m not sure about that. There have been more than one critically acclaimed movie that I thought bit the big one on most levels.
Maybe. I don’t like remakes in general, so it probably won’t make my “See In Theaters Because I Can’t Breathe Until the DVD Comes Out” list like Goblet of Fire.
We’ll see, I guess.

It is on my SITBICBUTDVDCO List but would have made the “I Haven’t Got a 111 Foot Screen at Home” List anyway. Harry Potter made both lists too.
Dob’t base your opinion on the movie on this review, but I found quite funny.
Lots of profanity thought.
(yes, it is on AICN)

I’ve just returned from seeing this, and I need to echo what someone earlier said:
If you do not have tears in your eyes at the end of King Kong, you probably kick puppies for fun.
I just got back from a late showing. Tears in the eyes. Poor Kong.
