My grandmother’s diamond ring: $6,000 Sapphire ring: $2,500 Wedding band: $200 Thumb ring: $250 Watch $5 Clothes: Maybe $100 all-told. (I don’t buy expensive clothing.) Purse: $20 Wallet $50 Medications in purse: $250 Stuffed pig keychain: priceless All told, almost $9000. I’m sort of shocked by this number because I’d never thought about it before and never realized what a loss it would be if I lost all of the posessions on my person. ---

I carry a lot of stuff on me. I hate purses and hate to carry things, so everything but the backpack and clothes are carried in my jacket, so just losing that would probably make me cry for a while. Glasses: $200 Jeans: $60 Shirt: this one was free, we’ll assume average $15 Shoes: $50 (? not really sure) Underwear: $5 Bra: $50 Socks: $3 Jacket: $10 from the thrift store mp3 player: $75 Wallet: $20 Paperback in my pocket: $1.50 (thrift store also) Cell Phone: $150 Hat: gift made by a friend, irreplaceable Backpack: $30 Books: don’t even get me started Total: $719.50, not counting the hat and unknown book costs ---

Hmmm… Hundred bucks for my shoes. 200 for my glasses. 30 for my pants. 20 for my shirt. 20 for my second shirt. Probably 20-30 cash on me. Socks probably $5. Underpants, negligible. 10-30 for whatever book I was carrying at the time. 100 for the CD player. 15-20 for the CD I’m listening to. 15 for the backpack the book and CD player are in. So…depending just what I have on me, 5-600 dollars. ---

Stuff I definitely have on me: Glasses - maybe $200 Watch - not much at all, maybe $20 Sneakers - some stupid amount, like $150 Clothes - varies, of course, but I’d guess around $100 total on average Wallet/contents - maybe $100 Keys - I guess it’d cost maybe ten or twenty dollars to recut them, so $15 USB Key - $85 Slinky spring - $3.50 Ummmm hair tie - some trivial amount. Okay, I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel now. So that comes to $673.50. Now, for stuff I have on me about half the time (depends on if I’m at uni or not, but that’s usually where I am when I’m out and about): Backpack - Not much, maybe $50 DS, games, totally awesome customised carry case - about $650 Deck of cards - Around $3 I think Design folder - About $5 insofar as replacing it is possible Textbooks - I’d guess about $100 on average So another $808 worth of stuff I sometimes have with me. That’s not too bad. Also, note that this is all Australian dollars I’m speaking in. ---

I never even got to Alice in Wonderland’s $300 underwear…I stopped at the $75 tank top! What I wore/carried yesterday: panties 2.99 bra 7.50 tights 4.50 half-slip 10.00 shoes 9.99 dress 3.00 (cheapy Wal-Mart fabric) necklace 1.00 (chain from craft store) watch 15.00 jacket 5.00 (Great Salvation Army shop around here!) keys 30.OO to recut…didn’t have the car remote yesterday purse 8.00 wallet, checkbook, various ID 50.00 to replace, based on what I spent last time my purse got stolen lipstick 10.00 pen 1.00 calendar 5.00 glasses 150.00 For a total of $312.98 And in the tote bag: yarn 22.00 circular needle 5.00 videotape from library on knitting techniques 75.00 For a grand total of $414.98. Which barely covers Alice in Wonderland’s undies and first layer of clothes! ---

OK, I’ll have a go at adding it up… glasses $600 earrings $90 wedding rings $300 engagement ring $2000 underwear $55 jeans $40 turtleneck $20 fleece $40 shoes $90 That’s a shocking $3235 for stuff on my person alone. Now to add the contents of my bag Bag itself $50 wallet $50 inkan (personal seal) $40 business wallet $10 mini accordion file and contents $50 cellphone $300 (I didn’t buy this!!!) That’s another $600, though if I had to replace the stuff myself I would get a freebie phone as it’s all I need. Just thinking about how much hassle it would be to replace all my bank books and cards, not to mention the stuff connected with my business that I lug about with me everywhere, and my toes are curling.
