My wife is so pissed that I inspired a multi-paged thread started by making fun of her goofy Rubber Stamber mag.:p:

I am reviving this thread just so I can say:
Modern Ferret

For people concerned their rodent might be a tad out of date. There’s a subheading that actually says something about “the ferret lifestyle”.

My dad gets wierd right-wing newsletters of the “the sky is falling” variety. One article was titled “Environmentalists are paranoid schizophrenics.”

Why knock an article that’s based in fact? 😕

Hope I’m not offending anyone by saying this, but I found the British humor magazine **Viz** to be completely incomprehensible. Don’t get me wrong, I usually love Brit humour but with this one I couldn’t make out a single joke; I even showed it to a friend and he couldn’t make heads or tails of it either. I remember that the cover proudly proclaimed something like “Featured in this issue: Noddy’s Piles, Fat Slags, and Other Assorted Shit.” Huh? What the hell does that mean?

And speaking of porn mags, I just don’t get **Celebrity Skin** – grainy, low-res, badly lit film stills of mostly unknown actresses. There isn’t even that much real nudity.

My side job is in a bookstore…to me, the strangest/most entertaining titles we stock on a continuing basis are:

**Varmint Hunter** - all about huntin’, skinnin’, and eatin’…varmints.

**Crochet Fantasy** - sadly, this is NOT actually a porno mag. Just patterns and such.

**Trailer Life** - they mean more like RVs and stuff, but it still makes me smirk every time I walk past it.

This doesn’t include the more run-of-the-mill oddities we carry like the aformentioned knife magazines, the pro wrestling fanzines, and the tattoo magazines, which are basically just Hustler for those with more, um, specialized tastes…

There are 3 of these magazines that I know of Countryside, Backhome, and Backwoods home. The only one that deserves comment is Countryside. The magazine is 90% written by the readers and is real folksy. It’s very much like a magazine version of a computer BBS. The articles are along the lines of “How to make Pickles” and “how to milk a goat.”

Me too. And tonight, having nothing better to do I was leafing through our magazine listings-

did you know there is not only a “Varmint Hunter” but also a “Varmint Master”? I was relieved to see it listed in the hunting section, rather than as some sort of bestiality/sado-masochism type thing.

There is also not one but two magazines dedicated to rubber stamps (the other being the appropriatly titled “Rubberstampmaddness”)

Other titles I liked:

“Amphibian Yearbook”

“Pittsburg Cigar Lifestyles”

“World of Interiors” (perhaps it’s only me that finds that title amusing.)

“Kite Passion”

“Bears and Other Top Predators” (how embarrassing to be a predator and not make the cut.)

“Cold Fusion Developers Journal”

“TV Hits Dicaprio” (Ok, I know it must just be an entertainment magazine with a special Dicaprio edition, but I prefer to think of it being dedicated to braining Leonardo with electronic appliences.)

I don’t get **Arizona Highways** , which is in all my doctor’s offices.

Arizona must have, oh, 5 higways, right?
What do they do for issue 2?

Uh-oh.

Look. I want my local comic book shop to stay in business. It’s a collector’s item. There’s an episode guide and a brief interview with the show’s creator, Craig McCracken. It’s not even a real magazine - it’s a one-shot parody of magazines, complete with a Mojo Jojo advice column and fake ads.

Also lots and lots of real ads for plastic PPG stuff. Okay, I’m a tool.

I still think _George_ is weird, though. Clebrity politics, ugh. Would this have flown without John-John? How does it survive without him?

Yeah, but there weren’t _any_ anime or giant robots or model-building bits in it. At least the copies I’ve seen. Some mildly suggestive soft-porn-wanna-be, but…
