I let a bunch of friends talk me into seeing **The Next Best Thing** because they were estatic at the thought of watching a mainstream film about gays. I should have trusted my instincts. The acting was atrocious, the directing weak, most of the conflicts could have been avoided with some basic communication skills, and every character (except the kid) was too selfish to identify with. ---

I paid to see Howard the Duck AND Sgt. Pepper’s. Both were stinkers. I still say that Up the Creek was the worst. ---

I actually paid to see species twice. The first time I saw it I was out with some friends and drunk off my ass. I woke up the next morning with a vague memory of Natasha Henstrige (sp?), breastesess and Alien. When it came out on video tape I rented it to see what it was all about. Ecch… I felt like making a public service anouncement about the evils of alcohol. I didn’t technically pay for The Good Son, but I still felt like asking for my frigging money back. I’d also like to nominate anything directed by Michael Mann, Roger Corman or anything in which Michael Bey was involved. A few years ago my wife and I used to get together with another couple and try to rent the worst dreck in existence. The worst one that anyone ever came up with was (I kid you not) “Caligula reincarnated as Hitler”. -LabRat ---

The worst movie I paid (a lot!) to go see was actually a play, **Les Misérables**. I was a fan of the old movie, but the play stank. ---

Does anybody remember Caligula, produced by Penthouse Productions? Gack! I saw it in the theater in its’ R rated cut, and wondered how explicit you have to be to be rated X. Some friends and I rented the hardcore version once and I was nearly sick. I mean, there were actors with names in that thing. Malcolm McDowell, Peter O’Toole, etc. ---

Baker - I saw the orginal Caligula in NY shortly after it came out. It definitly sucked. But the worst of the worst…and yes, I paid good money for it was… The Lair of the White Worm. Directed by Ken Russell. This was as bad as it gets. One scene had a young teenage boy in a hot tub with some broad. The kid stands up and just as she’s about give him head she turns into a snake and bites the lad in the penis. Had a terribly shrinking feeling after that for a while. An awful waste of time and cash. ---

I continue to be amazed at how subjective this is. Some of my favorite movies have been mentioned here. Why did so few people get “Last Action Hero?” One of the most relentlessly brilliant spoofs of bad movies I’ve ever seen, and so many people just thought it was a straightforward bad movie. And personally, I think that 20 years from now Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers, Showgirls, Basic Instinct, Robocop) will be reconsidered and placed on a level with Hitchcock and Sirk. Verhoeven shows us a mirror most of us don’t want to look into, and laughs at us the whole time he’s doing it. Anyway. The only movie I’ve ever walked out on was Good Morning, Viet Nam. (See how subjective this is?) ---

…was released some time in the early 1980s, and called “Dungeonmaster”. A friend and I went to see it at a matinee because it looked like a sorta b-grade sword and sorcery flick. Unfortunately, it started at grade Z and dropped steadily. It’s the only time I ever walked out of a movie and demanded my money back. ---

Armageddon Blair Witch (I “got” it, I just didn’t give a crap what happened to anyone in this movie) Jaws 3-D (though this may not count because we went to see it knowing it would be horribly bad) Alien 4 And on a related note, though I liked “Titanic” from a technical viewpoint, emotionally it left me cold. Again, I didn’t give a crap what happened to anyone in this movie. ---

I agree with some of y’all’s picks and disagree with others, but debating ain’t the point here, I guess. So, here’s a few that no one’s mentioned yet: _Heat_. Yes, the DeNiro-Pacino-Kilmer one. I’ve expressed my loathing for this cinematic skidmark in other threads, so I won’t rehash here. For those who love it: you’re wrong, the movie blows, deal with it. _Hellraiser: Bloodline_. To date, the only Alan Smithee film I’ve seen in the theater. What a pointless, meandering mess. Do rentals count? I doubt anyone can top _Glen or Glenda?_, which I paid to rent (knowing it was really really bad, but DAMN…). ---

The director hated Guccione and tried his best to sabatoge the movie. Kept using old hags instead of the “Pets” designated for the sex scenes. Much of the porn was shot by Guccione after the fact and inserted in various places within the film. He had to do it on the sly, because he figured that the principles would be none too happy. I forget most of the details, but I do remember that the story behind this film is a real hoot. Certainly more entertaining than the movie! ---

Is this in a theatre only? If so then my top 3 list of shame would be 1. **Natural Born Killers** There is not a single redeeming thing that I can say about this movie. The worst sort of exploitative crap which the director had the audacity to claim was about how Hollywood glorifies violence. Here’s a hint, Ollie, just shut the f\*\*\* up okay. Anyone who has voted for **8MM** should never see this film. Natural Born Killers makes 8MM look like Sundays in the Park with George. This is the only movie I’ve ever seen that has made me a worse person for the experience. 2. **North** This movie was worse than Cannonball Run II. How the hell is that even possible? Were there even any jokes in this thing? My memory’s a blur. Help me. I can’t see the screen any more. . . 3. **Batman And Robin** Everyone thinks this is a terrible movie, but it takes a Batman fan to really _ **KNOW** _ how terrible it is.
