The lack of play anywhere else aside (let’s just assume that somehow it gets enough play to qualify), football in the Olympics would be bad for anyone involved from America. The Olympics are going on during the preseason for the NFL and I don’t think you’d be able to get Division I schools to send players. Plus, players would worry about being hurt right at the beginning of the season, which would probably make the games even more boring than preseason games already are.
Well, baseball is in the Olympics and that’s smack in the middle of the American season…
But of course it’s not a contact sport. Still, I’d be willng to bet there are at least 30 college-level or better football players who’d be willing to be on an Olympic team. Doesn’t basketball season start soon after the end of the Games (I am not a sporto, I have no idea). Hockey season is some time around the time of the Winter Games too, no?
