# What's up with the Acme Company?

Re: Does Wile E. Coyote ever catch the Road Runner. Yes. He caught him in the 1980 Chuck Jones special “Bugs Bunny is Bustin’ Out all Over,” in the segment “Soup or Sonic.” The segment can be seen here. Not that Wile E. gets to actually eat the Road Runner, mind you.

Considering the fact that there used to be hundreds of Acme Supermarkets and now there’s only dozens. Naming your company Acme is questionable at best.

The 2005 column says that ACME owns Albertsons when in fact Albertsons bought ACME’s parent company in [1999](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertsons#Expansion_in_the_1990s).

Note that some ACME stores were formerly A&P stores that Albertson’s snarfed up and rebranded. So it’s not all downhill for the brand.

It’s weird to me that Albertson’s owns Safeway and on and on. It seemed to me that for quite a while 20-30 years ago they were running on fumes and closing stores.
