Seems to me they were last worn by Old Men who drove large cars very slowly in the fast lane. We grew up calling them “Go Faster!” hats. They were useful because you could predict the actions of other cars simply by the silhouette of the driver. Guess the oldsters are finally dying off and their grand kids are swiping their hats for laughs. That’s the explanation in my world. ---

I used to bitch about other people’s style, too. Then I graduated high school. It’s in fashion- what’s not to get? I bet if you charted the age of posters on the X axis and their distain for the trend on the Y axis, you’d get a positive slope. Yes, yes, you don’t like what the kids are doing these days. You’re old. We get it. Move along. ---

My first thought was of Matt Bomer as con-man Neal Caffrey in the tv series White Collar. He’s bringing the old school cool clothing back in style. ---

Yeah, I’d call that a kind of trilby, not a fedora. I think this all began with the Rat Pack nostalgia in the 1990s – _Swingers_ and all that. ---

I was at an outdoor music fest on the weekend, and thought how much BETTER they looked than the ubiquitous ball cap. Although I think the “best” hat related sighting was the number of shaved bald heads that came out in the evening with the ball cap tan/burn spot. Now that was douchy looking! ---

It’s a way to wear a no-fuss hat that doesn’t look as boorish (or at least overly casual) as a baseball cap. I also think they tend to look good, especially on balding men. ---

The guy who works at the store next to mine has a collection of these hats that he wears all day, perched on the back of his head. My favorite is the hot pink one. It seems to be his favorite, too. ---

You don’t _have_ to be a hipster douche to wear one, but if you choose to wear one, then you must be prepared to be identified as a hipster douche. If you want to avoid being identified as a hipster douche, as yourself one question: Is this accessory that I’m thinking about wearing been work by Ryan in the past two seasons of _The Office_? If so, don’t wear it. ---
