Here in New Joisey, people leave their Santas, Holy Families, Frosties and lights up till they are replaced by the bunnies, eggs and Baby J. of Easter.
We put Christmas lights around our hot tub deck last year…And never took them down. We still light them every night. This year instead of a real (dead) tree we bought a Cook’s pine tree and decorated that. I’m not sure it’s going to survive, it’s looking a little droopy right now, but we left the lights on it when we took most of the rest of the decorations down.
We put most of our Christmas stuff away after New Year’s but lately have been leaving some stuff up, like the little Santa in the airplane hung from the ceiling. When we remember to put batteries in he flies in circles.
Ok we’re pretty lame, and the funny thing is we’re not even into Christmas much anymore. Didn’t even get the gifts wrapped until noon on Christmas day. Then opened them 1 hr later. :wally
Since Dec 25 is the first day of Christmas and Jan 6 is the 12th day, it doesn’t make sense to take the decorations down before Jan 6.
It’s sad that Christmas carols aren’t heard on the radio after Christmas Day. It feels as if everyone’s ready to throw it away. I’m too sentimental to let go like that and I refuse to let commercialism dictate when Christmas starts and stops for me. (We’re such lemmings, aren’t we?)
I’m going to watch a Christmas movie right now.
(Finally took my tree decorations down last night.)
