What's with these oddball political comments by Dilbert artist Scott Adams?

Well, I can’t disagree with the last sentence in his latest blog post. ETA:well, except the part about enjoying his book.

He’s already said what it is; that he is personally being bullied by people working for the Clinton campaign.

I think Mr. Adams has an inflated view of his own importance. It’s also possible he is, in fact, a paid agent of the Trump campaign.

I do have a few Dilbert books but will not buy any more.

You got suckered by Big Marketing.

Years ago I did computer support. Got a call from this guy who claimed that his computer was being hacked via the wifi and bluetooth and wanted help stopping it. Well, turns out the guy lived on the ground floor of a fairly busy street, his office/whatever room looked out on the sidewalk and as people approached and passed by, their phones or other devices would appear on one of those two lists and he’d freak out. :smack:

This thread has Mr. Adams making me remember that guy…

Yeah, I think he doesn’t realize that within a margin of error of +/-.01% about zero people have heard of his twitter bullying saga, despite him listing no less than 26 distinct ways to insult him on twitter.

Adams is now trying to get the hashtag “Hillbullies” to trend.

He’s also expanding on his argument that ISIS is holding off on terror attacks to get Clinton elected. His theory:

  1. The more people think about terrorism the better Trump’s chances.
  2. It is easy for ISIS to conduct, or to have conducted on their behalf, terrorist attacks in the United States; even if a major attack fails the news of it almost happening will help Trump.
  3. ISIS fears a Trump Presidency because Trump is a Master Persuader who will cooperate with Russia to defeat them, and ISIS are also Master Persuaders and so understand this.
  4. Therefore, ISIS wants Clinton to win because she is not a Master Persuader.
  5. Therefore, they are not conducting terror attacks because they want Clinton to win.

The errors, leaps in logic, omissions and stupidities are almost uncountable; I am sure I don’t need to explain them all. You can all comes up with your own lists. Adams is himself suffering from cognitive dissonance on a huge scale.

His blog post reminds me of the old joke about the guy who meets someone at a party, and the someone says he’s a professor in the study of logic. The guy’s like “I don’t even understand what you study” and the professor says “Well, let me ask you this. What kind of car do you drive?” The guy says “A Honda Odyssey.” The professor says “Ah ha, so you’re heterosexual.” The guy says well, sure, but how did you come to that conclusion? The professor says “Well, it’s just logical deduction. The Honda Odyssey is a minivan. IF you drive a minivan, you probably have children. If you have children, well, you probably have, or had, a wife. And if you had a wife, you’re straight.”

The guy thinks that’s pretty impressive. The next day at work he tells a co-worker he had this fascinating conversation with a Professor of Logic. “What the heck is that?” says his co-worker.

“Well,” says the guy, “I’ll show you. What kind of car do you drive.”

The co-worker says “a Mustang.”

The guy says, “Homo.”

I started to have my suspicions about Adams after reading one of his early books – can’t remember the title, but it was the one where his brilliant insight into running a business – any business – was to enforce a strict 9-to-5 regime, no exceptions. This was guaranteed to lead to a happy and productive workplace!

So if you’re a research scientist, say, working on an exciting new discovery, the rule is: clock in promptly at 9 (don’t be late!), and get out by 5, or we’ll kick you out. Sounds like a winner!

His cartoons are often very funny and sometimes brilliant, but many of the ideas come from the millions of contributions he gets from fans citing their real-life experiences. And outside of the cartooning world, there seems to be more and more evidence that he’s a real nutter.

Not possible, because there are none of those. Though perhaps you meant to say that Trump promised him he’d pay him?

I hurt myself laughing, but it’s so very very true.

It’s so odd that the disaffected blue collars want trump in, the guy who has a *proven *track record of screwing them over.

I have enjoyed many of his cartoons and loved the book The Way of the Weasel - so I am sad to think he is a fan of tRump. what a pity!

I just love the way he uses the MasterPersuader™ thing.

so… how do you get it? Do you have to go to Trump U, hypnotize the Dean and walk out of there with your Diploma to prove you ARE a MasterPersuader™?

Worst part was, it was at least the second time he got played during a debate. The “Alicia Machado” thing at the end of the first one was a beautiful hook by Clinton… I didn’t even know that you could score a KO AFTER the bell rang.

I’ve been reading Scott Adams’ columns on Trump for a few months, and I seriously and honestly wonder about his mental health.

  • He has been saying that his life is danger because Hilary supporters are ‘out to get him’.
  • He ‘officially’ changed his endorsement to Clinton to avoid these death threats, while still continuing to praise Trump. Then he changed his endorsement to Gary Johnson, then he changed it back to Trump.
  • Then there is his whole fuss about ‘shadowbanning’ on Twitter.
  • When three different media sources all ran articles about his blog entry saying he would help to assassinate Trump if he ‘became a Hitler-type person’, Adams decided that these three separate articles appearing at about the same time was a ‘conspiracy’ from the Clinton camp - seeming not to realize that if something is newsworthy it will naturally tend to be covered by different sources independently, and that all the articles were based on his own blog post.
  • He sees the fact that requests for him to speak at events have fallen to zero as being another ‘conspiracy’ and a way of ‘bullying’ him.

In general his posts have become more and more incoherent and less and less rational over the past few months.

Note that I’m NOT saying that Trump supporters in general are irrational - though I don’t support Trump - but I do have genuine concerns about Scott Adam’s mental health.

and

Adams makes two key mistakes here. Firstly, that breaking everything doesn’t involve being Hitlerish, and secondly that Trump’s supporters would recognise Trump’s actions as Hitlerish, if it wasn’t their ox being gored.

Yes, exactly.

The strange thing about Trump supporters is that they think they can change an unjust economic system by voting for a rich, arrogant, entitled bully - a member of the 1% who has treated his employees and clients like @#$% his whole life, and thinks that taxes are only for the little people.

They think that they can ‘make America great’ by voting in a dumb, blustering, self-centered, misogynistic frat boy who never grew up.

I’m not American, and like 99% of non-Americans who wish America well, I’m shaking my head in disbelief at this election.

Exactly. Everyone thinks someone’s Hitler every now and again. How do you figure out whose claims are worth “acting” on?

He’s in a dream world.

Just ask the Chinese how the Cultural Revolution worked out.

That seems to be the very angry right wing road - just smash intellectuals, destroy unwanted history, forcibly change the culture to what they imagine they want, and damn the consequences.
