# what's wrong with boxing today?

I did a search not too long ago on the Google Scholar for “boxing brain damage” and found a number of studies with conflicting results (most were abstracts only, so I couldn’t comment on the methodology) regarding how awful boxing is. In some cases, they said that _dementia_ is something that most amateurs will never have to worry about, and that it’s really only heavyweight pros that will have problems. Others say that even the strawweights will become drooling fools by round two of their first fight.

That’s probably not terribly helpful though.
