Ah, that’s too bad. 82 years old. My son knew Reynolds from the old Smokey & Bandit movies. I had him watch Deliverance with me recently, and he was surprised at how good the movie was, and how ripped/fit Reynolds was in it. Also, how much it differed from Reynolds’ later movies. ---

Not the greatest movie ever, but his acting in _Boogie Nights_ was award worthy and made me love that movie. ---

sad news One of his college roommates at Florida state was Lee Corso of ESPN . Also Smokey and the Bandit was a guilty pleasure of Alfred Hitchcock. ---

I was watching S&tB just this weekend, for the first time in a while. It got me to thinking about how Burt was doing these days. Mostly thinking about Burt vs Gleason, and how Jackie had been on top of the world in early TV, and ended up doing one dimensional loser roles like Smokey. Burt was on top of the A list at that time, and faded away himself, a bit more gracefully however. ---

Smokey and the Bandit is on Prime and I was just watching it the other night. It’s one of those movies I can watch any time, but can’t watch on cable due to all the cuts. Never could get into Deliverance and still think it was an odd choice to show our English class in high school ---

Deliverance is very good except the night time rock climbing scene with Jon Voight that was filmed during the day and they added a bad filter to make it appear like it was night. ---

Burt’s appearance as the mayor in Saints Row the Third was hilarious and very self-aware. I never cared for the various redneck action comedy franchises he anchored, but I enjoyed his work in many other projects. ---

There probably is a certain reservoir of resentment out there because Burt could be a jerk in real life. Not all the time, but he certainly had his moments. Still, this is sad news. He was funny and likable and had a rascally sort of charm. And IMO was a much better actor than he was given credit for. ---

\*\*Deliverance \*\* was just a great film, because of Bert. The sheriff at the end of the film knows that something is up, and just tells them “Don’t ever do nothin’ like this again. Don’t come back up here.” That sheriff was James Dickey, the author of the book that the movie was based upon. Of course you already knew that. ---

I semi-watched _Mad Dog Time_ earlier today. Larry Bishop’s\* gangster “parody” movie. Has a load of [well known people](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116953/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast) in it. Many of them briefly before they get shot. Including Burt Reynolds. So Burt died twice today for me. - Son of Joey. Who appeared in it, of course. It’s labeled as a Rat Pack-like film what with Joey and Henry Silva. Not … really. (Budd, Larry’d like a word with you.) ---
