I’m feeling extremely computer-nerdish after participating in the [What was the first computer you used?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=233501) thread. So I thought it would be fun to share what our computer specs are.
Here’s my current system, which I’m proud of because I built it myself from separate parts (really, it’s very easy) and I keep it in really good shape:
AthlonXP 2500+ (Barton core)
DFI KT400A motherboard
512 MB PC3200 RAM
GeForce4 Ti4200 overclocked to Ti4600 speed
2 30Gig IBM hard drives in RAID 0
Windows XP
And that’s all inside the linen closet to keep the cords away from the baby! Just a few cables run to the outside. On the desk is a nice 17" black LCD screen, black speakers and black wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse.
Okay, so I know it’s not the best out there, but I got a lot of bang for my buck.

Mine is a trigger’s broom. (All it’s parts were bought at different times) I intend to either completely replace it or upgrade it again soon.
AMD Athlon 1000
1 gig of SDR RAM
20GB HD
A motherboard of some sort.
GeForce 4 (the expensive one, not the budget one)
Windows XP
SB Live 5.1 sound card.
Logitech cordless KB and mouse.
17" Monitor.
It’s all inside an ugly flimsy case with both sides unscrewed (lost the screws)

I was jonesin’ for a new laptop last Christmas, but last-minute household problems derailed those plans. Still, works great for 90% of the stuff I want to do, short of burning DVDs.

My current home system:
Pentium I, 300Mhz, 3GB HD, 14" Monitor. Win '95. No working CD drive at present. No phone line or modem.
Haaahaa…read it and weep, suckers!

Trigger’s broom?
Still building my new one, but it’s been functional for a month or so, and since the motherboard on my current one just mysteriously died, it’s the only thing I have now.
P4 Northwood 2.8 ghz 800 mhz fsb
Gigabyte 8knxp mobo 875 chipset, dual bios, 800 mhz fsb
512 mb DDR PC3200 (going to a gig soon)
Dualboot Windows XP professional / RH linux 9.0 Shrike
80 gig (Windows) 12 gig (linux) harddrives
Pioneer DVD burner
52 X CD burner
Lian Li aluminum case
Right now sound is onboard until I decide which soundcard and video is Nvidia 5200 until I have dough for a 9800 or 5900.

I’ve had my system long enough, I’m not sure I remember all the specs anymore. Since I bought it though, I’ve upgraded or replaced most everything except the motherboard and sound card. Here goes:
Pentium 3 800MHz motherboard
384 MB RAM (I think)
64 MB GeForce2 graphics card
Sound Blaster Live sound card (maybe)
DVD reader
CD burner
wireless PCMCIA card - allows me to access the wireless router connected to the cable modem.
17" flat pannel monitor (just got this for Christmas)
flatbed scanner
HP inkjet printer
I think that about does it.

It’s plugged into my mixer and sound system.
Next phase: AMD 64-bit. Those video transcoding times (AVI to MPEG-2 for DVD) are a bit long.

**Call it the Silent Power…**
Everything is black - black drives and a black aluminum Lian Li case. No lights or windows. It’s your basic “Government Black Van With No Windows” making you wonder and worry what’s going on. A couple square feet of Dynamat insie the case and a “silencer” power supply hold most ot the noise inside. The HD is mounted in a silencing sub-enclosure.
I was using an nVidia 5200 graphics card as it had no fan and was therefore entirely silent. That soon proved to be insufficient, so I found a deal on the 9600XT and will most likely replace the fan with a heatpipe. Once I do that, the PC will again be quiet enough to sleep next to, making just a light whirr of moving air without the buzzing of fans and whining/clattering of hard drives.

Celeron 400MHz, 192MB RAM, god only knows what the motherboard is, 8GB hard drive.
I know I have a SoundBlaster SomethingOrOther and a Rage video card.
CD-ROM and a CD-ROM/R/RW drive, external Zip drive, cheapest possible no-name keyboard and speakers, logitech optical mouse (given to me just yesterday by my SO, who bought himself a wireless optical mouse). 15 inch monitor.
All beige, except the Zip drive and mouse, which are both blue.
I need to upgrade!
