# What's "your drink"?

Millions,
Imagine you’re in a bar or a pub or a rainy New Orleans patio somewhere and you’re on vacation or out with cohorts or maybe work just finished and you need to take the edge off. You’re up at the bar & you order “your drink.” Bond had his, right? So, what’s yours?
I ask in the interest of finding out the strange & usually interesting tastes of you, my fellow dopers, who’ve recommended such fine food, books, music, and so forth to yours truly.
I have two. Really, just one, because the other is more or less unknown in the region I live in.
1. Gin Gimlet, rocks.
Simply gin, lime juice (fresh squeezed, preferably), and ice. Somehow more enjoyable than a G&T and a bit smaller with all the ginny goodness. Apparently originated from British war rations, where soldiers had a lime, some cigarettes, and a couple pulls of gin per day.
2. Brandy Milk Punch
Brandy, whole milk, powdered sugar to taste. The aforementioned “unknown” on the west coast. It’s ridiculously tasty & quite southern. If you’re ever in New Orleans, please order one, preferably on some veranda, whilst smoking. Sheer heaven.

Depends on the time of day. I might order wine, probably white, with lunch. After 4:30 or so I’m apt to have a martini. I haven’t been much of a beer drinker for the last 10 years or so, but do plan to try Sam Adams’ stout.

If I’m out to unwind after a long day or what have you, I’ll have a beer. In order of preferance:
1. Bass Ale on tap
2. Magic Hat #9 on tap
3. Magin Hat #9 in a bottle
4. Bass Ale in a bottle
If they have NONE of those options, then it’s probably not very liekly I’d be in there more than once. 😛
Though if I just want to sip and enjoy a cocktail, I’ll take a gin (Bombay Saphirre or Tanqueray) and tonic, with lime juice (not Rose’s lime syrup) on the rocks.

Kamikaze straight up.
Sometimes a vodka collins.
While camping we like to take Vanilla rum, mix it with some Sprite and a little orange juice. It tastes just like a creamsicle.
Another favorite is Sailor Jerry’s rum and diet coke.

Ack! That’s like saying your favorite food is “meat.” Are we talking day-old hot dogs or a good cut of veal?
For me, [Big Daddy is #1, Prohibition is #2](http://goodbeer.com/Pages/beers.htm). After those, it’s whatever microbrew catches my fancy at the time. Or maybe gin & tonic.

I don’t have a habitual drink that I call “my drink”. I like to try new things, but I do have a small group of known drinks that I will come back to repeatedly.
For all those serious drinking times…
Vodka Collins
Scotch and ginger ale
Rum and coke with a twist
Softer stuff…
Champagne and Chambord
Various wines depending on meal/occasion
Coke and amaretto

My all time favorite answer to this question came from a German tourist I met in Alaska once…
birdmonster: “So what’s your favorite drink?”
german fellow: “My favorite drink is the one I am holding when you ask.”

If I feel like beer, a pint of Guinness. If I don’t, then Maker’s Mark bourbon with a splash of water and two ice cubes.
What did your cardiologist say about bourbon???
