I always took that to mean that there are people who would be so vain that they think the song is about them, even though it’s not. ---

I think that that irony is part of the point of the song. It is a fact that Wally Cox and Brando were very close friends. No idea whether or not there was a gay relationship. IIRC Cox’s on camera demeanor was misleading, he was in fact a macho kind of guy. Also, there were plenty of rumors about Brando and Jack Nicholson, who lived next door to each other, which some suggested wasn’t a coincidence. ---

The way I heard the rumor was Mich wrote a song about a woman “I met while we were both laying the same bloke.” And separately, that “Angie” was about Angela Bowie. Put the two rumors together and …they fit! And as for “you probably think this song is about you”, it isn’t ironic, it just means that said person is so vain, he thinks _everything_ is about him. Why would this song be about “you”? But, this time, he is right, ---

That Johnny Carson is as a superior officer who commanded Ed McMahon in WWII. While it’s true that one outranked the other (I think McMahon was the superior officer), they served thousands of miles apart and doubtless were never in the same country together. ---

Not really rumors but Hulk Hogan has told many outright lies over the years: He claimed that both Metallica and The Rolling Stones wanted him as their bass player. He was offered him the lead role in The Wrestler three times. Hogan claims he turned it down because “he didn’t deserve it”. the director denies that Hogan was ever even considered for the role. He partied with John Belushi after WrestleMania II in 1986. Belushi died in 1982. He was the first choice for The George Foreman Grill but he missed the phone call and the company went with Foreman instead. Both Cher and Madonna wanted to date him but he turned them down. ---

Both Lucy Lawless and Jennifer Aniston were subject to a phenomenon I never understood: any time either of them was in the public eye again (long after _Xena_ & _Friends_ were over), articles and teasers started to pop up saying one or the other was pregnant. The Aniston ones slowed down after she turned 50, but there was one tumbling around about Lawless when her current TV show, _My Life Is Murder_, was renewed for a second season. I never understood what underpinned these rumors; there was so many, it seemed that there must be some public desire for them to have a baby. Weird.
