# What's your favorite cheat code?

I know, I know…true gamers don’t believe in cheat codes. But, purely from an entertainment standpoint, sometimes they’re fun. Not to enhance gameplay, or to allow you to get past a rough stretch of gaming more easily. But just to sometimes wreak havoc for shits and giggles.
Right now, I think my favorite is for the great game _Grand Theft Auto 3_. There’s a cheat (which I have written down, but not with me) that allows you to conjure up a tank to drive through the streets with. Oh, the fun and carnage!

Who doesn’t remember the Contra code 😃
**Grand Theft Auto 3** has some great ones. My favorite is the tank code mentioned above. Another cheat that’s pretty entertaining incites the pedestrians to start rioting.
In **Jedi Outcast** , I like turning on the realistic saber cheat and lopping off a few stormtrooper limbs. Does that make me weird?

_That’s_ not the famous Konami Code! It’s Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start! (Yes, a few modifications were made for it in some games, but it was usually this.)
Good thing I pointed it out too. I wanted to do the Konami Code.

**gonzoron** is correct. (Select is optional - whether you want to play 1 player or 2.)
My favorite? idkfa is a classic, as well as iddqd, or idspispopd. Those still roll off my fingers years after playing Doom.
But my real favorite? Gotta be xyzzy. Though it wasn’t a cheat code in the original Adventure, interactive fiction authors have incorporated it as an easter egg in dozens of games since then. Sometimes it’s a cheat, sometimes it’s just a cute easter egg, but xyzzy will live forever for me.

Well, I don’t know if this is technically a cheat code, but if you let the two left most bees survive on the first level of the arcade version of Galaga, eventually…after twenty minutes or so… the computer stops dropping bombs and wont for the rest of the game. So you can play for a couple of hours on a single quarter!
On some of the newer chipsets this has been disabled though. Bastards.

In “Earthworm Jim”, there was a cheat code that let you play the game with an afro. No real gameplay advantage, though, so I suppose it was more of an Easter egg.
The cheats in Hexen were pretty standard, but they all had cool codes. For instance, no clipping was “casper”, and all weapons was “nra”. Meanwhile, if you tried to use any of the Doom I or II cheat codes, they gave you the opposite: iddqd killed you, idkfa took away all of your stuff, etc.

Who told you true gamers don’t believe in cheat codes? Hell, I don’t just believe in them, I’ve seen them!
My favorite cheat is to type `showmethemoney’ into Starcraft, which allows me to kick ass almost no matter how drunk I get. I’ll be falling asleep at they keyboard, and still I keep the Zerg at bay.

After getting killed a few many times in Unreal Tournament, this is what I like to do:
Open up a map with lots of vertical open space and a redeemer.
God mode.
Fly mode.
Pick up the redeemer.
type “allammo” - so now I have 999 redeemers at my disposal.
Have a little thermonuclear fun with the bots.
[sub]m-m-m-monster… m-m-m-monster… m-m-m-monster killllll…[/sub]

“g\_saberrealisticcombat 1” is simply essential. Jedi Outcast should have been designed around it from the get-go. I’m also very fond of “npc spawn reborn” repeated several dozen times, along with spawning a few friendly jedi. Pure enjoyable chaos.
I don’t really consider this a cheat code, but “fixme” in Morrowind will save many a reload when you end up stuck on walls, fences, ledges, boulders, etc. If only it had been in Daggerfall back in the day.
And like many, I will always hold a fond place in my heart for idkfa.

The settler cheat (bug) in Civ 1 was one of my faves. Select a settler to irrigate. Click on it so it’ll start flashing again. Make it irrigate. Complete two more times until square is irrigated in 1 move. Repeat, repeat, repeat. You’ll be landing on Alpha Centauri by 1 AD, easily.

For Star Wars Demolition on the Dreamcast there is a game you can play called ‘Droid Hunt’ where you compete against another play to destroy as many probe droids (as seen in the ESB on the planet Hoth) as you can. Well, if you enter a cheat ‘GunganHunt’ the droids become Jar-Jar and when shot they create a satisfying explosion of flesh and bone. I can’t believe Lucas allowed it.

Man… I can’t remember it now… There’s a starcraft easter egg that plays a funky Zerg song. “The Overmind… has got the skills”
too lazy to look it up… but it’s good.
