Malibu Bay Breeze (Malibu, orange, pineapple and cranberry juices)
Jolly Rancher (I have _no idea_ what the hell is in it, but _boy_, is it yummy)
And I was recently introduced to the Apple Martini (mostly because I was already buzzed and wanted the pretty glass).

Red-headed Sluts~jaegermeister, peach schnapps and cranberry juice. Originally discovered these as shooters, but they convert just fine to a cocktail when you up the juice a wee bit and put it over ice.

A very dry, very plain martini. Save your high priced gins, flavored vodkas, and the “trash” (i.e., olives, onions, etc.) Take some ice, put it in a cocktail shaker, add a dash of vermouth and shake, strain the vermouth out, add 3 - 5 ounces of gin, shake again, strain into a stemmed glass. Repeat as needed until vision begins to blur and you can’t feel your lips.

Man, some of these drinks sound horribly sweet. I tried an apple martini once. Blech!

But you know what is really refreshing on a hot summer day? A daquiri. No, not some banana/mango frou-frou daquiri. I’m talking about your simple rum, sugar syrup, and _fresh_ lime juice shaken over ice and strained into a simple glass. Ahhh.

Okay, so my sister and I play this “Three Guesses” game. I basically say something like “Guess what I’m doing right now?” and I only do it when I’m doing something bizarre which I know she won’t get. I then make up some sort of fabulous prize if she guesses it in three.

Last night, I lost. The prize was a poem:
\*I tried a brand new cocktail
and with an excited sensation
I called my big sister to guess it
Misjudging my inebriation

“Guess what I just drank!” I cried.
“Three guesses, can you tell me true?”
“What do I win?” the lovely girl pried:
“A poem,” I said. “All about YOU.”

“I’ll give you some hints,” I blathered away,
“It’s one that I’ve never drunk.”
“Long Island Iced Tea?” she queried of me,
“WRONG GUESS,” I told her, “You flunk!”

“I get two more,” she said with aplomb,
She’s dilligent, honest, and true
“It doesnt’ have gin!” I said with a grin.
“And I never drink anything blue!”

“That tells me nothing,” she said with a pout.
Her spirits were starting to flatten.
“It’s an OLD drink,” I hinted to her.
“Leslie, you had a MANHATTAN!”

“AAAAAAHHH!” I screamed, alarming my daughter,
Who was seated right there in the kitchen.
“How did you guess? Now a poem I must write!”
“You bet!” said my sis. “Make it bitchin’!”

So bitchin’ it is, befitting the gal
Who conquers the world every day.
And me, I have learned
Cocktails are a curse.
I’m sticking with dry chardonnay.\*

This from someone who thinks there is too much fruit juice in a Cosmopolitan.

(2 parts vodka, 1 part Cointreau, 1 part Cranberry juice, let the lime juice bottle splash over the top).
For sweet without the fruit juice, the Kentucky Martini - half bourbon, half ameretto. Or Rasberry martinis, Chambord and Vodka.

I’d probably like those. I dunno, I guess it depends on what I’m in the mood for, because the last time I was in Maui I drank 3-4 Mai Tais a day.

But apple martinis are just gross. A cocktail should not taste like a Jolly Rancher.

I was in this very nice restaurant in the mountains of North Carolina (an oasis, I assure you) and I ordered my (then) usual, a Belvedere Cosmopolitan with Cointreau instead of Triple Sec. “Oh, we make what we call a ‘Dirty Cosmo’ here,” the bartender said, in a tone that implied I would get what she gave me and like it. They used a cheap vodka, orange juice, triple sec, and then poured several tablespoons of maraschino cherry juice into it!

This was a fancy restaurant, too! I was bummed. It tasted like Hawaiin Punch.

I’m generally a beer guy, but \*\*Long Island Ice Tea \*\* can be real nice from time to time. Although, I find it difficult to remember those nights on occasion… 😃 In fact, I think I’m off for one now, cheap cocktail night at a decent bar… only £3 I for a good LIIT. Not too bad…

I’m not much of a mixed drink drinker. Usually just beer or shots of hard alcohol.
But on occasion I will have a Long Island Ice Tea. My roommate made a 60 oz Long Island last weekend.

I will also drink Gimlets. Because there easy to make. Just Gin and Lime juice.

Ordinarily a glass of wine (yep, I’m a total wine snob), but if I’m in the mood to drink, either a double Crown Royal rocks or Tres Generaciones (Sauza) tequila; the only kind of tequila I know of that doesn’t automatically cause me to regret drinking it.

depends on whether I’m drinking or drankin’…

drinking implies polite company, trying to stay moderately sober and is shots of whiskey (bourbon or Irish) neat and a diet coke…

drankin’ means hangin’ with the fellas and gettin’ 'faced, and means Verbena Iced Teas… which is a water glass 3/4 full of bourbon and three ice cubes

Favorite cocktail: Sidecar. It’s hard to find bartenders who know how to make them properly. Sweet and sour mix is _not_ acceptable.

Though I’m mostly a beer drinker, with a nice bourbon (neat) coming in a close second, I do enjoy a good sidecar.

My drink of the moment is light Bacardi and Diet Coke. According to the ads in current magazines, that concoction has no sugar, no carbs, and 66 calories per drink. Tastes okay, and about four create a decent buzz. 🆒

No offense intended, but _vodka and coke?_

That sounds like something a teenager would concoct when the parents are away for the night.

Is this a popular mix?

You may be alergic to corn. Most beers (except Budwieser) and bourbon are made with corn.
