What's your favorite constellation?

Orion’s the only constellation I can regularly identify when I see it, so Orion. I’ve tried to learn some of the other constellations, but when I look at the sky, all I can see otherwise is a bunch of stars in no good pattern. But Orion, I can recognize.

In one of his fantasy/horror novels, Fritz Leiber refers to the Black Constellations, the shapes made up of the darkness between the stars. Kind of a “Satanic Bible” inversion.

No, no, the Seven Sisters are on a Subaru. Not a Ford.

Orion and Sagittarius. Both great to view with binoculars, but it’s hard not to appreciate Orion as the most beautiful.

Fascinating! You might enjoy some thoughts that were shared at Absence/Emptiness as a theme in art from 01-21-2006, 10:17 AM through 02-03-2006, 08:37 AM

Something like Sounds of Silence, perhaps…

Zeldar: lovely stuff! Absence can have a presence of its own. If you put a lovely lace doily on a surface, spray-paint through it, and take it up, the paint patter is very nearly as beautiful, itself, as the lace doily was.

(And, of course, the absence of a bathing suit has a very definite effect…)

While we’re at it, here’s a sort of koan I used to enjoy using at appropriate times:

My favorite Constellation is this: http://www.iloveplanes.com/super-connie

As for stellar matters, Orion is one that I have identified in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, so that’s it.
