I’ve never enjoyed Thanksgiving food, and neither my own family nor my in-laws are entirely pleasant to hang around with on Thanksgiving, it’s always an incredibly stressful day. My wife and I usually end up in Disneyland by ourselves. I fucking love Christmas. Nothing but happiness all day. I love Christmas songs, Christmas trees, Christmas tree ornaments, Christmas presents, the movie _Christmas Vacation_. For some reason all the crap that our families normally go ape-shit over during Thanksgiving gets ignored on Christmas, leaving only pleasantness. ---

The Fiestas season begins in Castejón, for St Peter (feastday 29 June) and ends in Zaragoza with Pilares (feastday 12 October). Somewhere in there, the barbarian hordes descend upon Pamplona, middle-aged ladies have a great time watching all those buff Kiwis dance, cops spend a lot of time trying to keep drunks and druggards from bothering the bulls and some not-quite-naked PETA folk hold up a banner. ---

When I was young we were pretty poor, so Christmas was one of the few times we got toys. Now that I’m older I love to give gifts. ---

New Years for me. I get an excuse to stay up late drinking beer and even better I get to do so with friends. How many other days can you make tons of noise at midnight and not have the police called on you? Even the 4th of july has usually calmed down by then. ---

Even if we just stay home and watch the neighbors light fireworks, it’s a good time, with no stress or family obligation. I approach Thanksgiving and Christmas with dread, because of the family crap. ---

I started this same thread a while ago well before a poll function. I still feel the same way about it. Halloween comes out on top especially around here where you can treat it like a season. The 4th of July is second. Thanksgiving comes in at last place. It is horrible and really should be abolished as an official holiday for too many reasons to list. Thanksgiving. It’s the only mandatory, you have to go or you’ll be disowned no matter where you live now holiday in our family. The FOOD! I take the whole week off from work so I can help my mom cook for four days straight. My 96-year-old Grandpa, who just got divorced from his fifth wife ‘so the gals in the nursing home will notice him more.’ My three older brothers, who still think it’s okay to wrestle me to the ground and fart in my face (okay, I have to admit, except for the smell I always get nostalgic at that). Finally getting to sit at the grown-up table, which only started 12 years ago (I’m 46) I can’t wait! ---

I like Thanksgiving because it’s the only holiday on which I traditionally go back home to see my family. I’ve been doing it ever since I went away for college 25 years ago. This year will be the first exception to that I can remember, and only because my wife will be over eight months pregnant on Thanksgiving this year.
