Another vote for Sonny whomping on Carlo.

Also, Token beating the crap out of Cartman was pretty good.

My favorite fight of all time is the one at the high school reunion in _Grosse Point Blank._

No clever dialog. No bullshit notions of “fair play.” No moves wasted. Just two trained killers who know that only one man is going to walk away.

Man, **Podkayne** , you just beat me to it.

Incredible scene. So intensely taut, so realistic. There was this very real sense of not knowing who would come out the victor, because both parties were so utterly professional. Couple that with the aforementioned lack of cinematic embellishment, and you have one of the most grimly brutal fight scenes ever captured on film. I wish more of them were like this.

The scene from _The Manchurian Candidate_, mentioned earlier by **Bryan Ekers** , is also great in a very similar way.

A stark contrast to the finale where his fight with Akroyds character is filled with clever dialogue and pointless overkill (ie taking a frying pan to a guy you shot 5 times already)

I can’t believe no one mentioned the “cripple fight” between Jimmy and Timmy in **Southpark**.

My favorite arse kicking ever has to go to Father McGrueder (did I spell that right?) in Braindead (AKA Dead-Alive). He’s a kung-fu priest who kicks the living shit out of two zombie hoods, kicking off various limbs.

“I kick arse for the lord!”

You guys who haven’t seen this film don’t know what you’re missing.

The fist fight in **Cool Hand Luke** (Paul Newman). Everyone, including his opponent, begs him to just stay down so the fight will end, but he keeps getting up and getting pounded down again. It’s agonizing.

No no _no_. _shaking head sagely_ The best fight in “Angel” to date was between Angel and Faith after he reverted to Angelus.

The Syd/Allison fight from the 2nd season finale of **Alias** was amazing. It’s absurdly long, but it’s just spectacular to watch. Any time you give Syd objects to work with, she will be amazing. Kudos to Jen Garner and the Alias fight trainers.

#1) I will never forget Tom Hanks in **Forrest Gump** going to town on the face of Jenny’s hippie boyfriend like it was nobody’s business after the hippie slaps Jenny during the Black Panther’s meeting.

#2) Mel Gibson in **The Patriot** tomahawking the British soldier during the forest ambush scene after witnessing the Brits kill and arrest his sons.

(What father wouldn’t have done that under similar circumstances? Gee, after having watched that scene, I now understand how the Iraqis must feel toward U.S. troops.)

In Osamu Tezuka’s anime _Metropolis_, Japanese detective Shunsaku Ban is being held at gunpoint by a neo-facist thug named Rock.

Shunsaku Ban give a nasty grin, and flicks the light switch, plunging the room into shadows.

The savage beating that this old-school trenchcoated detective gives this pseudo-stormtrooper, shown in the half-light of a darkened room, gives us a clear idea of what Tezuka-san had thought of the miltarist government of Japan during World War 2.

It’s _nice_ to see the Good Guys give genuine scum a thorough shellacking! 🙂

Tex Cobb’s asskicking of Cage in Raising Arizona is good, but so is John Goodman’s asskicking of Cage in the same movie. When Cage reaches up to deliver a two-handed, overhanded punch, and scrapes his knuckles across the textured ceiling? Oh, man - cringe inducing.

Also worthy is Bruce Dern’s fight with John Wayne in “The Cowboys,” and Bruce Dern getting what’s coming to him in the same movie.

The fight between Patricia Arquette and James Gandolfini in True Romance. The brutality and viciousness of it, with Alabama still pounding on his corpse when she runs out of ammo.

Ok–it’s not an “ass whooping,” but the best part of the movie Shane is definitely when Jack Palance kills the sheep farmer in cold blood in front of everybody. Talk about character development with economical dialogue. In fact, it would have been an imeasurably better movie if Palance had been cast in the role of Shane instead of the wimpy Alan Ladd.

The penultimate duel in _Equlibrium_ is pretty shocking. The scene in _Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever_ where Lucy Liu uses those two baton things to beat the hell out of half a dozen SWAT officers is good also, too bad the rest of that one sucked.
