I need some ideas for new music to buy (or download)…what are your favorite songs/bands? I like pretty much everything 'cept country, rap and punk rock, but post whatever you want.

I’m not a good judge because the music I like isn’t very popular, but here are some favorites:

[VNV Nation](http://www.vnvnation.com) - Standing
[VNV Nation](http://www.vnvnation.com) - Beloved
[Mesh](http://www.mesh.co.uk) - I Can’t Imagine How It Hurts
[Mesh](http://www.mesh.co.uk) - Leave You Nothing
[Depeche Mode](http://www.depechemode.com) - Enjoy the Silence (\<-- one of the greatest songs of all time!)
[Depeche Mode](http://www.depechemode.com) - Black Celebration
[Anything Box](http://www.anythingbox.com) - Radio Static
[Anything Box](http://www.anythingbox.com) - Blue Little Rose
[Anything Box](http://www.anythingbox.com) - An Ending

Also, if you want to download, [Anything Box](http://www.anythingbox.com) has a free downloadable album on their web site called _Binaraural Repeats_, which is a compilation of their best songs of the past ten years. I highly recommend you give it a shot.

Anything by Sigur Ross!!! They’re just the best!

And, though I’m young, I’m still very old school. Go with the Beatles (definately Abbey Road), and the Doors.

Let me second **Sigur Ros**.

My favorite band is **Stereolab** , but I’d have to say my favorite song of all time is either _96 Tears_ by **? and the Mysterions** or _St. James Infirmary_ as performed by **Cab Calloway** , depending on my mood…

**interface2x** , what about VNV’s _Praise the Fallen_? 🙂

_Blue Moon Revisited_ - Cowboy Junkies
_Angry Johnny_ - Poe
_Black_ - Pearl Jam
_99 Luftballoons_ - Nena
_Pass the Dutchie_ - Musical Youth
_One_ - Metallica
_Superstitious_ & _Higher Ground_ - Stevie Wonder/Red Hot Chili Peppers’ version of _Higher Ground_
_Be My Yoko Ono_ - Barenaked Ladies (the “Gordon” CD!)

I’m a fan of Blondie, the Beatles, & Nine Inch Nails (_Head Like a Hole_ is a favorite), as well as Ani DiFranco & Bob Marley. I’m getting into bluegrass - I like the songs I’ve heard off the _O Brother, Where Art Thou?_ soundtrack. _Brushfire Fairytales_, a CD by Jack Johnson, is brilliant.

…And I know you said no rap, but I LOVE “Rapper’s Delight”.

I realize that’s not the point of this thread, but I was all set to say that from reading the title, so there it is.
