Sorry, my only ‘view on him’ is that he should really go by “Stephen” or S. David McQueen to avoid confusion.
I’m always surprised that people with “famous” names don’t go by a variation. If I were beer authority Michael Jackson, I’d say “Please, call me Mike. On my book covers, too.”
(Dubious anecdote: We took in the mail for our neighbor Butch last month, and noticed that official state documents were addressed to A. “Butch” Schicklgruber. We’re making bets on whether he’s Alois, Adolf, or just Al.)

Why should he? It doesn’t seem to be harming his career. All it seems to be is confusing people that have no concept of context and struggle with people having the same name.

I think the actual post itself makes it obvious which Steve McQueen the OP is talking about, so in that case the title was descriptive enough. Or did you just read the title and not the post?
To answer the OP, I haven’t watched _12 Years A Slave_ yet. I’m just not really interested in seeing that depicted. In fact, I haven’t watched _Django_ or any other movie about American slavery. But I have seen _Shame_, and it was interesting enough. I saw it before Sleepy Hollow premiered on Fox and was really happy that show meant Nicole Beharie would get regular work because I liked her in the movie (of course that show is…not as fun now). So anyway, I’m happy that a black director finally won an Oscar even if it was for film about slavery, but I hope to see more of Steve McQueen. Hollywood needs more minority voices behind camera.
