Systems Analyst. I don’t think I’ve analyzed a single system since I started. When people ask me what I do for a living, I don’t know what to tell them, since most people aren’t familiar with the term “systems analyst.” I used to say “I’m a computer programmer,” but I realized that’s not really true. Now I just say “I work in IT,” and hope they’re satisfied. Once I’ve said that, they know about as much about my job as I do. ---

System Support Technologist The job description includes just about everything to do with user-side computer stuff - hardware, software, training, docs, some Web stuff, … Right now I’m on the helpdesk, and do some docs between calls. ---

I’m currently unemployed (and loving it!) but during my internship last year I was in charge of making nametags for our group’s national convention. My title, which I gave myself: Director of Event Personnel Identification. My boss called me DEPI (pronounced Dee-pie) after that. A lot of people, including my other bosses, called me Young [First Name], because at 16 I was 3 years younger than the next youngest intern and 5 years younger than most. It was fun making a 21-year-old feel old after telling her I had almost no memory of the 80s. Oh, and my official title was Development Intern. ---

used to be “Transient Sales Supervisor”, “Reservation Sales Manager” and “Revenue Manager”. All 3 translate to “underpaid idiot who works too many hours and may be blamed for anything that goes wrong in this hotel”. Now I am “Support Engineer” (what a complete bullsh\*\* title), have no power whatsoever and only my own actions to be responsible for. It’s heavenly 😃 ---

S.R.A. is my university/paycheck title, but I also have a plethora of titles for the various projects I work on: Project Director of the \_\_\_ Study and the \_\_\_ Study Research Project Director of the \_\_\_ Program Web Content Manager for the \_\_\_ Program \_\_\_ Listserv Moderator Because my main job gives me titles instead of money (just kidding – sort of), I occasionally take additional work as a Statistical Consultant and Data Analyst, and on weekends I’m a Legal Transcript Proofreader.
