When I was a senior in high school I graduated near the top of my class (don’t be too impressed - the average IQ of my graduating class was somewhere above lumber). Those of us who achieved this honor were invited to lunch with the Superintendent of the district. The first question out of his mouth was not “where are you going to college” or “what are you going to major in” but “Do you have a boyfriend?” followed by “What sports does he play?” (There may have been a reason most of my classmates can be compared with wood). Note that I did not graduate from high school in 1954 - but 1984 - sometime after the discovery that girls, too, went to college and played sports. ---
