What's your oldest working appliance?

My friend reminded me of our previously co-owned vacuum. He still has it 8 years later; we believe it dates to around 1952. It is a turquoise Electrolux, and is still working, although these days it makes a rather sad and plaintive whine when it is shut down.

When I opened this thread I thought to myself “I don’t have anything old.” But now that I read some posts, I guess I do.

I have a JVC VCR that my brothers and I bought as a gift for my parents in 1986. I bought it from them when they upgraded, and it’s now in use in the exercise room to play videos. Works just great. Only thing I’ve ever had done with it is a couple cleanings.

I also have the original stereo that I bought in 1984. Turntable (Harmon Cardon) and cassette deck (Yamaha) are in the basement - they still work, but I haven’t bought a record in 12 years and I threw out all my cassettes 4 or 5 years ago. The receiver (JVC) still works great, and is hooked up to the original speakers (no-name brand, about 3’ tall) that I bought with the system.

I remember the days that whenever I bought a record, I made sure I had a brand new metal cassette tape on which to record it. You recorded the record, then listened only to the tape in order to keep the record from being scratched. I did this religiously, buying blank cassettes in 10 packs. Boy, am I glad CD’s came out, which I can play at home or in my car or whereever.

'course, I’m bitching about tapes. I also remember the 8-Tracks of my childhood. Now there’s a useful medium!

Ah, analog audio recording. The Good Old Days. I remember Babylon.

My folks donated a chest freezer to me that preceeded my existence (40+ yrs), still works fine but I am quite certain that it fails today’s energy standards.

A Harman-Kardon amp of the same vintage still supplies tunes in my garage/workshop. Several power tools in the workshop also predate the owner.

Am I detecting a pattern in these posts or what? Are we proud and satisfied with these items or just too darn cheap to let 'em go?

There’s a wringer washer in the garage, that I use for greasy work cloths and clothes. Must be from the 30’s, although I bought it used, so I don’t really know.
