# What's your pie?

For the last 20+ years, I’ve been “forced” to go pie-less every Thanksgiving. The family all love this revolting pumpkin chiffon monstrosity called a “Harvest pie,” so that’s what gets served. Every mother-loving year. Sheer politeness and desire for minimal drama makes me forgo bringing an alternative pastry. But this year…this year is different! The wife and I aren’t going to be with family on Thanksgiving, so we can have whatever we want. And this year I’m having pecan pie!
It’s the little things.
So, Dopers…what’s your favorite pie for this time of year? The qualification is so there isn’t a runaway for strawberry, which is out of season and off the list.

When I bring dessert for Thanksgiving, there are always 3 pies - pumpkin, custard or buttermilk, and peach streusal, which is my all-time favorite. I know it’s not peach season, but I buy them and freeze them for later in the year, so out of season doesn’t apply to me! 😃

I’m not a big fan of most traditional fruit pies, but I think the best I’ve tasted - and it was amazing - was sweet potato pie. That’s my vote.

Any pie I can stuff in my pie hole is fine with me. But if I’m fortunate enough to have a choice, a fruit pie is almost always my go to decision.

Boysenberry for me, please. I freeze the berries when I harvest them, just so I can have boysenberry pie at the holidays. Also pumpkin, but only if the filling is made from home-processed pumpkins, not that blechy commercial canned stuff.

Dark, dark chocolate pie; Kool Whip on top is nice instead of meringue. But if I _have_ to, I’ll take pumpkin with a smidge of whipped cream. ☹
(See what I did there? I made like I’d be doing _them_ a favor taking their excess pumpkin pie, when that’s what I really want all along. That’s called stragedy. 😉 )

After last year I decided I had enough of this pumpkin pie nonsense. I want a pie I’ll really like.
This year I’m going with banana cream pie. It’s the funnest pie of all time. Even the peels can be used for comedy.
My other choice would be some sort of chocolate pie, but I already have the bananas. Maybe I’ll fit one in for a mid-Thanks-Christmas celebration. It is the pie and soup time of the year.
Pecan pie sounds like a good Thanksgiving pie. It’s kind of fancy cooking for me and a little on the heavy side, but if someone brought one I’d take a slice.

I often make and bring pecan pies to holiday gatherings, but only for a crowd. I love them, but I can’t eat them. Too rich – disagrees with my delicate digestive system, I guess.

FairyChatMom, set another place for me, because I don’t care how far away you are - I’m showing up. 😃
I haven’t had buttermilk pie since I left Texas in 2000. A co-worker made them from scratch, and she would make one just for me once or twice a year. Best pie ever.

Actually, I’m making a few banana puddings for ourselves and friends\* this year for T-day. The Keebler elves version works best for me; less work than the Nabisco BP.

I make a traditional, heaping, looks like it should be sitting on a window sill, apple pie.
At least, that’s how my Mom describes it.
Thanksgiving is typically just Mom, Dad, Sister, and Me. Occasionally an extra one or two. We don’t go overboard with dessert, so just the one pie.

I’ll third this.
For me, the only absolutely-must-have pie on Thanksgiving is pumpkin. But apple is a close second. We also have non-pie desserts, often pumpkin cheesecake. This year, I’m making [Cranberry Linzer Torte](http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1016966-cranberry-linzer-torte), someone else is bringing the pumpkin pie.

I don’t really like pies. But I love, love, love a good apple pie. Has to be nice and warm, and has to have a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream. Any other pie pretty much leaves me cold.

I simply can’t name a favorite pie, there are so many good ones. Now, pecan, I’d be making that this year but it was my dad’s favorite and he died in September.
So I’m doing chocolate pie, the recipe for which came from my beloved grandmother. Chocolate pie with whipped cream on top! MMMMMMMMMMM.
