My husband works out of state five days a week, so I have to sleep alone in a large house with just the cat for company. On nights when he’s gone, I simply must sleep with the door almost closed, or better yet, totally closed. I know full well that in the unlikely event someone breaks in and wants to go after me, that closed door ain’t gonna stop them, but still. Leaving it open more than a couple of inches skeeves me out and gives me insomnia.

Unfortunately, kitty appears to have exactly the opposite quirk. If the bedroom door is closed or almost closed, she insists on flinging it as widely as possible. She even knows how to pop it open when it’s locked. I’ve given up the fight - her brain might be the size of a walnut, but she’s still going to win.

> I won’t take the top newspaper off a pile (_can’t_ is maybe too strong a word, but I just never do it), whether it’s from a vending rack or a stack of freebies.

I once knew the owner of a small grocery store for whom this practice was anathema, because the neat stack of papers would always get messed up by people pulling copies out of the middle. So he put up a sign: “Top paper is 25 cents; all other papers $2.00”. Of course, it only worked because the pile of papers was right in front of him.

My quirk: baseball-type hats on men, especially indoors. I loathe this practice as uncouth and uncivilized (and other synonyms for the same thing!) I also cannot bear to wear any hat indoors myself; I even have trouble when I’m in the subway.

The cabinet door thing KILLS me. I seriously go homicidal when I see open cabinets or drawers. It just…BUGS.

The thought of anything dry on teeth or in the mouth at all totally squicks me out. Papertowels on teeth? I could barely _type_ that. Cotton balls? Ditto. The dentist, naturally, totally freaks me out.

I make up songs and sing them to my cats. I just moved and my little cat, Fuzzy, finally came out of her room before I left for work. This, of course, necessitated a chorus of “look, there’s a sonic boom, Fuzzy is outta her rooooooommmm!” until I left the house. I don’t know why I do this, I just do. I guess that’s kinda quirky.

This totally made me smile. My stepmum used to sing 'We are si-a-me-ese if you ple-ease" to her siamese cats, Tammie & Rosie, all the time. And they would meow right on cue. Cracked me up to no end. Tammie & Rosie have passed though, and the new siamese kitties, Hailey & Mia, are not talkers at all . . . kinda sad.

Tinned pet food, ::::_shivers_:::::

I’m not especially sensitive to things, smells, sounds whatever. But something about tinned pet food makes me want to vomit. The smell makes me nauseous in the extreme. Needless to say my pets all get kibble.

Last week I was speaking on the phone with a friend about the struggle of getting our dogs to take pills. She said she puts it into a ball of wet food - I almost vomited right then and there.

I keep a tin in my pantry, just in case. But I am loathe to use it unless absolutely necessary. And when I do, I will be holding it at arms length, and holding my breath, the entire time. And there ain’t no way that’s going in my fridge!

I know, you’re going to say it’s no worse than liver pate, which I have eaten. I’m here to say, ‘Nay’, not so. Tinned pet food is clearly the devil’s work.

OK, I admit it, I do same thing with my dog. A lot of the stuff doesn’t rhyme, but she isn’t too critical. She just likes to hear her name.
