'‘Freedom ‘90’’ by George Michael \*I think there’s something you should know I think it’s time I told you so There’s something deep inside of me There’s someone else I’ve got to be Take back your picture in a frame Take back your singing in the rain I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes do not make the man Freedom! Freedom! FREEDOM! You got to give for what you take\* This song has been my anthem since it blasted through the car stereo the day I left the courthouse, at 17. My parents’ perfect little ever obedient straight-A student had just told them to shove their abusive and ridiculous behavior where the sun don’t shine. Song just gets more and more relevant as time goes on. And the [music video?](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqRAwzcQrpE) C’mon. Genius. ---

“Life’s Been Good” by Joe Walsh. I don’t actually live like that and I never will but for some reason I always think of it as “my song.” Maybe because it’s iro…er, contradictory? I also like “For Once in my Life” by Stevie Wonder. It’s not MY song, it’s me and my dog’s song (lame!) ---

I started a thread on it a little bit ago – there’s some people’s suggestions in there: > **[What's your theme song?](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=535740)** > > I’ve been watching the complete series of “Ally McBeal”, just released on DVD, and I came upon an episode where Ally’s therapist (played hilariously by Tracy Ullman) tells her to pick a theme song. The only requirements she gives are that it needs to... ---

Jackson Browne’s Farther On \*Now the distance leads me farther on Though the reasons I once had are gone I keep thinking Ill find what Im looking for In the sand beneath the dawn But the angels are older They can see that the suns setting fast They look over my shoulder At the vision of paradise contained in the light of the past And they lay down behind me To sleep beside the road till the morning has come Where they know they will find me With my maps and my faith in the distance Moving farther on\* The rest of the lyrics are [here](http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/jackson+browne/farther+on_20068554.html). I’m not always this melancholy, but when I am, this song fits me perfectly.
